California Miniature
Schnauzer Rescue
—Rescued Dogs In New Homes 2012

California Miniature Schnauzer Rescue re-homed 156 Miniature Schnauzers during 2012. Below are some of the dogs we placed during 2012.

Donald

Photo of Rescue Dog Donald Photo of Rescue Dog Donald

Donald is a small black Miniature Schnauzer who we rescued from the Downey shelter. He has natural ears and an undocked tail. He's probably about 1½ year old. He's a little guy, weighing about 10 lbs, but his ideal weight is probably about 12 lbs.

These photos were taken right after we pulled him from the shelter. He'll look more handsome when we get his face and ears trimmed properly. He's also very frightened—shelters are scary places—but we are sure he will gain self-confidence after he is with us for a few days.

Donald seems to get along well with other dogs. We have not had him around children or cats yet.

Donald is neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations.

Donald was adopted by a family from Reno on December 29, 2012.

Kenny

Photo of Rescue Dog Blue Moon

Kenny is a purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer who is about 5 years old. We rescued Kenny from the Kern County shelter in Bakersfield.

Kenny was pretty matted up when we got him and he had wounds, apparently the result of being attacked by another dog. But the wounds healed and Kenny looks beautiful now.

Kenny is a friendly guy who gets along with everyone. He's perfect for someone looking for a dog with a quieter temperament.

Kenny is neutered, microchipped, and current on vaccinations.

Kenny was adopted on December 29, 2012 by a family from Camarillo.

Blue Moon

Photo of Rescue Dog Blue Moon

Blue Moon is a purebred Miniature Schnauzer who is about 3 years old. She was surrendered to us by her former owner who could not keep her.

Blue Moon is a friendly little gal. She loves people, and gets along with other dogs. She came from a home with children, so she is fine with kids. We have not had her around cats yet.

Blue Moon is spayed and current on vaccinations.

A couple in Murrieta adopted Blue Moon on December 29, 2012.

Laci

Photo of Rescue Dog Laci Photo of Rescue Dog Laci

Laci is a purebred black Miniature Schnauzer who we rescued from the Lancaster shelter. She is about 3 years old.

Laci loves people and gets along well with other dogs. She is okay with children. We have not had her around cats yet.

Laci is spayed, microchipped and current on vaccinations.

Pretty Laci went to her new home in Sacramento on December 28, 2012, where she joins another Schnauzer, so she will have a playmate.

Gwen

Photo of Rescue Dog Gwen Photo of Rescue Dog Gwen

Gwen is a very cute, very friendly, purebred Miniature Schnauzer who we rescued from the South Los Angeles shelter. We think Gwen is a little over 2 years old. She weighs about 13 lbs.

The shelter said Gwen was a Schnauzer mix, and that's what we thought too until we groomed her and found a gorgeous purebred underneath. She looks even prettier in person when she is not standing in a 20 mph wind.

Gwen gets along well with other dogs. We have not had her around children or cats yet, but she seems to love everybody.

Gwen is spayed, microchipped, and current on vaccinations.

Gwen was adopted by a family from Riverside on December 23, 2012.

Ace

Photo of Rescue Dog Ace Photo of Rescue Dog Ace

Ace is an adorable purebred salt and pepper Miniature Schnauzer. We rescued him from the San Jose shelter. He is about 6 years old, and weighs about 17 lb.

Ace has beautiful brown eyes with long lashes, as well as a nice head and body. Our thanks to master groomer Judy Sousa for help with grooming Ace.

Ace appears to be completely housebroken. He has not once made a mistake in his foster home. Ace is a good eater in his foster home.

Ace is alert, energetic, and affectionate. He has been good with all the tall and small dogs in his foster home. The only area where Ace appears to need work is his tendency to be “mouthy.” He often tries to softly nibble or mouth hands or fingers put close to his face, a habit his foster home is working to discourage—and he has already begun to show improvement. We think Ace would do best in a home without small kids because socialization training will need to continue in his adoptive home.

Ace has been neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. He had a recent dental cleaning.

Ace went to a great home in San Jose on December 22, 2012, and he also has a new name—Spencer.

Sugar

Photo of Rescue Dog Sugar

Sugar is about 2 years old. She was described by the shelter as a white terrier mix. However, they had her so shaved down that we could not tell what she was. Now that her coat has started to grow in, it appears that Sugar is a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier. We rescued her from the Baldwin Park shelter in September 2012.

Sugar was extremely timid when we got her. She would back away from anyone who came near her. Now that she has spent some time with us, she is a lot better. She is affectionate with those she knows, but still somewhat apprehensive of strangers. She will, however, allow strangers to pat her if she is with someone she knows.

Photo of Rescue Dog Sugar

Sugar would be best in adults only home or with children no younger than teenagers. She would do best with an experienced dog owner who has time to work on socializing her.

Sugar appears to be in good health. She is microchipped and current on vaccinations. She will be spayed before placement.

Sugar was adopted on December 21, 2012 by a retired lady from Carlsbad. It was love at first sight when she and Sugar saw each other.

Bentley

Photo of Rescue Dog Bentley

Bentley is a super cute terrier mix puppy who we rescued from the Bakersfield shelter. He is about 8 months old and weighs about 10 lbs.

Bentley is a friendly little guy. He's a bit timid after his stint in the shelter, and wants to be held and cuddled. He likes other dogs. We have not had him around cats yet.

Bentley appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations.

Bentley was adopted on December 21, 2012 by a family from Fairfield, where he will have a Miniature Schnauzer for company.

Brownie

Photo of Rescue Dog Brownie Xray of Rescue Dog Brownie

Brownie appears to be a tiny Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier. The shelter said that Brownie was an 8 month old female Miniature Schnauzer mix. As it turned out, Brownie is a male and was only about 4 to 5 months old when we rescued him. The photo on the left is Brownie at the shelter before we rescued him.

Poor Brownie was the sad loser in an encounter with a car, resulting in two broken bones in her his hind leg. Brownie's surgery, with follow-up xrays, cost about $4,000. The surgery, on October 24, 2012, went well, Both breaks were repaired and an external fixator was attached.

Brownie had his final checkup and xrays on December 8. His leg has healed well. His external fixator was removed, and 5 days later his hated Elizabethan collar came off. Brownie is putting weight on the leg, and getting more rambunctious as the leg feels better. The photo on the right shows Brownie on December 15, standing on all 4 legs.

A BIG thank you to Hope for Paws Rescue (Eldad Hagar), who paid the cost of Brownie's surgery. And Brownie has his own video now at https://vimeo.com/53170185. Thanks very much to Mary Conley who did a fantastic job putting the video together.

Brownie was adopted on December 18, 2012, by a retired lady from Santa Rosa.

Cooper

Photo of Rescue Dog Cooper Photo of Rescue Dog Cooper

Cooper is a purebred black Miniature Schnauzer. He is about 3 years old and weighs about 25 lbs. We rescued Cooper, along with Carl and Cory, from the Chula Vista shelter.

Cooper is "au naturel," with uncropped ears and undocked tail.

Cooper is a super friendly dog who treats strangers like long-lost friends. He likes other dogs too. We have not had him around cats yet.

Cooper appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations.

Cooper was adopted by a family in Reno in mid-December 2012.

Cory

Photo of Rescue Dog Cory Photo of Rescue Dog Cory

Cory is a purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer. He is about 4 years old and weighs about 17.5 lbs. We rescued Cory, along with Carl and Cooper, from the Chula Vista shelter.Cory is "au naturel," with uncropped ears and undocked tail. We trimmed his head, but unfortunately the shelter had cut off most of his beard because it was badly matted. Cory will look even more handsome when his beard grows back.

Cory is a super friendly dog who treats strangers like long-lost friends. He likes other dogs too. We have not had him around cats yet.

Cory appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations.

Cory was adopted on December 14, 2012 by a family from Valley Springs.

Carl

Photo of Rescue Dog Carl Photo of Rescue Dog Carl

Carl is a purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer. He is about 3 years old and weighs about 20 lbs. We rescued Carl, along with Cory and Cooper, from the Chula Vista shelter. Carl has uncropped ears and a docked tail.

Carl was adopted on December 13, 2012 by a family who lives in British Columbia in the summer and in Arizona in the winter.

Timmy

Photo of Rescue Dog Luda

Timmy was found running loose, with his coat heavily matted, covered with foxtails and stickers, and giving a free ride to numerous ticks. He groomed up pretty nice, didn't he?

Timmy appears to be a cream-colored Schnoodle. He is super sweet, and just wants to snuggle. He is less than a year old. He is a little guy, weighing about 8 lbs.

Timmy appears to be in good health. He has been neutered and will be current on vaccinations before placement.

Timmy was adopted in mid-December by a family in the Sonora area, who have a very friendly Airedale to play with Timmy.

Morgan

Photo of Rescue Dog Cooper Photo of Rescue Dog Mickey

Morgan is a cute, friendly, mixed breed puppy who we rescued from the Stanislaus shelter. She is probably less than six months old.

Morgan is extremely intelligent—too smart for her own good! Morgan is pretty much housebroken, but like all puppies needs to be watched.

Morgan loves chew toys, and chews them all the time. That saves her foster's shoes and other items. She's very active but does settle down and lie next to her foster on the couch or on the bed.

Morgan is in good health. She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.

Morgan was adopted on December 13, 2012 by a family from the Sonora area.

Mickey

Photo of Rescue Dog Cooper Photo of Rescue Dog Mickey

Mickey is a 3 year old salt & pepper male Miniature Schnauzer who we picked up from Lathrop yesterday.  He weighs about 16.5 lbs.

Mickey had separation anxiety, but his foster is working on that, as well as on lead training and basic commands. Mickey slept well all night in his crate the first night and is learning to use the doggie door. He has a good appetite, but is not food aggressive. Mickey appears to want to please and is very sweet. He was very very easy to bathe and groom.

Mickey appears to be in good health. He is microchipped and current on vaccinations. He will be neutered before placement.

Mickey was adopted on December 10, 2012 by a couple in Lodi.  They do not have any other dogs at this time but plan to add another one in the near future.

Trudy

Photo of Rescue Dog Trudy

Trudy is a very sweet and pretty purebred black Schnauzer who we rescued from the San Jose shelter. She is a tall girl, about 17 inches at the shoulder, but slender for her size at 24 lb. Trudy is probably between 6-7 years old.

Trudy is spayed, up-to-date on all her shots, is microchipped, and will have a dental cleaning before adoption

Trudy gets along beautifully with a mixture of tall/small dogs in her foster home. Gentle and well-mannered, she is the best behaved foster on a grooming table her foster mom has ever encountered—a real lady, calm about every aspect of grooming. She actually offered her paw for a shake during grooming! Trudy rides well in a car and knows some basic commands like “sit” and ”shake.”

We don’t know why Trudy became a stray, but it’s evident from her behavior that she’s well socialized with both people and dogs and has been given good care in the past.

Trudy was adopted on December 9, 2012 by a retiree who lives in Rodeo (north of Berkeley) who will be home with her most of the time.

Chachi

Photo of Rescue Dog Chachi

Chachi is an adorable and easy-going senior terrier mix who we rescued from the San Jose Shelter in April 2012. We think Chachi is 10-11 years old.

Chaichi had a severe skin infection and hair loss when we rescued him. Our vet determined that his skin condition was the result of a food/environmental allergy. After weeks of treatment in his foster home, Chachi's fur fully grew back and he now sports a nice-looking gray coat.

Chachi is enjoying a limited-ingredient grain-free kibble, and will probably need to remain on this diet for life to prevent a recurrence of his skin problems.

Chachi gets along beautifully with other dogs and is quiet and well-mannered. Chachi is easy to walk on a leash and doesn’t pull or bark at other dogs or people he meets. You can see Chachi in motion by clicking on the following video link: http://youtu.be/pAJx5nkHQjA.

This special boy will bring quiet joy and companionship to an adoptive home.

Chachi is neutered, up-to-date on shots, and housebroken.

Chachi was adopted on December 3, 2012 by a family from Sacramento. He will be their only dog and their center of attention.

Noah

Photo of Rescue Dog Noah Photo of Rescue Dog Noah

Noah is a cute as a button Schnauzer mix who we rescued from the San Jose shelter. He is 1 to 2 years old.

This little guy is a sweet, endearing, bundle full of joy, with a cute playful side as well! He is also a non-barking/yappy dog. The only time we have heard him bark is for a warning—someone in the yard he did not know, or at the door etc.—a totally appropriate guard dog! It was such a big deep bark we could not believe it came from such a little dog.

Noah truly loves everyone. He is great with elderly, men, women, children, cats, and other dogs. He loves to be laying with or following his people around. Then he will sprout a playful streak and will go through the pet toy box testing most of them out He loves to play with toys. It is very cute to watch!

Noah has had all of his vet checks. He is neutered and up to date on his vaccinations. He is ready to go to a loving home with a clean bill of health!

Noah was adopted by a family from Susanville on December 2, 2012. They don't have any other pets, so Noah will have their full attention.

Mikkey

Photo of Rescue Dog Mikkey

Mikkey is just one year old.  He is a handsome, healthy, salt & pepper male Miniature Schnauzer with a calm and loving disposition. His present owner, an elderly lady, bought Mikkey a week before she asked us to list him. She is surrendering him because Mikkey is not fully housebroken and she is unable to undretake the task.

Mikkey loves people and is not aggressive toward other dogs. He is somewhat shy but warms up quickly and loves to be petted and stroked. He is good with children of all ages. He has not been around cats, so we do not know how he feels about them.

Mikkey is smart, observant and learns quickly. He will make an excellent pet/companion with some training and continued socialization.

Mikkey is in good health. He will be neutered and current on vaccinations before placement.

Mikkey was adopted by his fosters in November 2012 and is enjoying life in San Francisco.

Freddy

Photo of Rescue Dog Freddy Photo of Rescue Dog Freddy

Freddy is a super nice, super friendly Schnoodle, who is about 1 year old, and weighs about 11 lbs. We rescued Freddy from the South Los Angeles shelter.

As cute as Freddy looks in these ungroomed photos, he will look even more handsome once he is groomed up.

Freddy loves everyone and gets along well with other dogs. He is fine with cats. We have not had him around young children, but he'd probably like them too.

Freddy appears to be in good health. He is microchipped, current on vaccinations, and will be neutered before placement.

Sabrina loves people and other dogs. We haven't had her around children or cats yet, but we think she will be fine with them.

Sabrina does not look her best in this photo because the shelter shaved off most of her beard and furnishings. She will look beautiful once they grow back in

Sabrina is spayed and up to date on vaccinations.

Albert and Sabrina were adopted on November 23, 2012 by a family from Cheney, WA where they join a 12-year old cat.

Leo’s current family adopted him several years ago from an owner who could not keep him. Leo is used to living with other dogs in both homes. He is sensitive and loving. His current owners feel he would do best in a home where someone can be at home part of the day and also take him for rides in the car, which he loves. Leo would probably also do best in a home without young children, and in a single-family home with a yard rather than an apartment.

Photo of Rescue Dog Leo Leo enjoys walks. He likes to stop and sniff a lot and tends to bark at other dogs until he can meet them. He is used to being groomed.

He is neutered, up-to-date on shots and healthy. We have not yet met Leo or had a chance to evaluate him, but we hope to do so soon.

Leo was adopted on November 14, 2012 by a couple in Santa Clara.

Like many Schnauzers, Bandit barks when first meeting strangers and when the doorbell rings, but calms down as soon as he is petted He loves going on walks.

Bandit is living in San Jose. He is neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date with vaccinations as well as his flea/tick medicine. He will have a dental cleaning this month.

We listed Bandit as a courtesy to Nike Animal Rescue Foundation (NARF), narfrescue5@yahoo.com, which was kind enought to rescue Bandit. I would do best with adult owners as I have never been with children. I will love you forever and be the best companion you have ever known if you will be my forever home. Do you have room in your heart for me? I sure hope so!

Photo of Rescue Dog Dixie Photo of Rescue Dog Dixie

Dixie is a black female Giant Schnauzer puppy who was surrendered to the Lancaster shelter because her owners were moving and could not take her to their new home. She is a very sweet, well-behaved girl who was easy to groom. Dixie is about a year old.

Dixie will be best as an only dog. She was fostered for a couple of weeks by a gentleman who owns two adult Giant Schnauzers. Dixie met them, and liked them, but soon became possessive of her new foster and objected to his other dogs coming near him. He therefore had to return her to her initial foster home. Dixie didn't react to the cats in the grooming room at her initial foster home, so it appears that she is okay with cats. Dixie has had some rudimentary obedience training.

Dixie is ready for a new home. She is spayed, microchipped and current on vaccinations.

Dixie was adopted on November 4, 2012 by a family from Edwards who have owned Giant Schnauzers before.

JoJo

Photo of Rescue Dog JoJo

JoJo is a purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer who was surrendered to the San Gabriel Humane Society. She is about 2 years old and weighs about 19 lbs.

Sadly, a couple of days after she arrived at the shelter, one of JoJo's eyes started to water. Their vet treated the eye, but it kept getting worse and had to be removed. (The vet believes that her eye had been somehow injured shortly before JoJo was surrendered to the shelter.) However, JoJo sees just fine out of the other eye, and the loss of one eye does not seem to have dimmed her outlook on life.

JoJo is very affectionate and was a favorite at the shelter, which took very good care of her. They even bathed her just before we picked her up! JoJo seems to love everyone and gets along well with other dogs. We have not had her around small children or cats yet.

Photo of Rescue Dog JoJo

The shelter had to cut off some of her beard to do the surgery without risk of hair getting into her eye, and we have not had a chance to groom her yet. Even so, she is clearly a nice looking Schnauzer and she will look gorgeous once we get her groomed.

JoJo appears to be in good health. She is housebroken, spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.

JoJo was adopted on November 4, 2012 by a retired lady from Tustin.

Huey is super playful, and has lots of energy. He loves to cuddle. Huey gets along with other dogs. He is rooming with Hopper at their foster home.

Tuffy

Photo of Rescue Dog Kramer

Tuffy is an active purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer. His age has been estimated at 7 to 9 years old, but his activity level is more like a 6-7 year old. We rescued Tuffy from the Shafter shelter.

Tuffy loves to play with his toys and loves his walks. In the best of all possible worlds, he would really like to have a fenced in back yard and even a doggy door. However he does quite well with a couple of good walks daily and a couple of other opportunities to relieve himself. His foster mom works full time and there has been no problem while she is gone for up to 9 hours. He is a perfect gentleman in the house and it is always as clean when she comes home as it was when she left it--well, maybe a toy or two is out. He has not been kenneled during her absence. Her landlady says that he never barks while she is gone.

Tuffy likes everyone he meets--adults and children. He is good with other dogs but he is not suitable for a home with a cat as he has made his dislike of felines quite clear. He walks well on a leash and is getting better at basic commands. Tuffy loves to go in the car and is a well behaved quiet passenger.

Tuffy likes to cuddle and loves being petted. He is a good companion and will make an individual or a family the center of his universe.

Tuffy appears to be in excellent health. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on shots.

Tuffy was adopted on October 24, 2012 by a couple in Elk Grove. He'll be an only pet, so he will get a lot of attention.

Valerie

Photo of Rescue Dog Valerie

Valerie is a very sweet purebred black Miniature Schnauzer who is about 3 years old. We rescued Valerie from the Bakersfield shelter. Valerie had been hit by a car and needed surgery. Fortunately, no vital organs were injured and Valerie seems to have made a full recovery.

Valerie loves people and enjoys playing with other dogs. She is okay with cats. We have not had her around children, but we think she will be fine with them.

Valerie is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.

Valerie was adopted on October 20, 2012 by a couple from Escondido.

Rizzo

Photo of Rescue Dog Rizzo Photo of Rescue Dog Rizzo

Rizzo is a purebred salt and pepper Miniature Schnauzer He is 6 years old. His owner is heartbroken about having to give up Rizzo but does not have enough time to spend with him.

Rizzo is somewhat standoffish at first, but is a very sweet, affectionate loving little guy once you get to know him and once he gets to know you. Rizzo is not well socialized but gets along with other animals once he has had a little while to warm up to them. We think he would be fine with older children, but might not be good with very young ones. Rizzo is housebroken and responds to basic commands such as Come, Stand, Sit, Stay, etc.

Rizzo has been neutered. He is microchipped, is current on all vaccinations, and is in very good health. He has healthy teeth too.

Rizzo was adopted on October 10, 2011 by a family from Sacramento.

Sandy looks to be a Cairn mix, and is about 2 years old. He weighs about 12 lbs.

Sandy is friendly with people and good around other dogs. We have not had him around cats or young children yet.

Sandy appears to be in good health. He is microchipped, neutered, and will be up to date on vaccinations before placement.

Sandy was adopted on October 9, 2012 by a lady from England and her adult daughter. They were spotted walking in downtown Sonora, all looking very thrilled with the new relationship.

Betty

Photo of Rescue Dog Betty Photo of Rescue Dog Betty

Betty and Shaggy were owner-surrenders by a family who lost their jobs and could no longer afford to care for them. Betty is a 7 year old purebred female Miniature Schnauzer. She weighs about 13 lbs.

Both Betty and Shaggy are effusively friendly with people, like other dogs and get along with cats. Betty had bladder stones when we got her, but has had surgery to remove them and is feeling great now.

Betty appears to be in good health. She is housebroken, spayed and current on vaccinations.

Betty and Shaggy were adopted together on October 5, 2012, by the daughter of the original owner. She recently graduated from college, has a job, and has promised to take good care of them. Betty and Shaggy were excited to see her, and she was just as excited to see them!

Kramer

Photo of Rescue Dog Kramer Photo of Rescue Dog Kramer

Kramer is a purebred 2 year old male Miniature Schnauzer who we rescued from the Yolo shelter. He came to the shelter badly matted with lots of burrs and foxtails. He's on the larger end of the normal range for a male Miniature Schnauzer, at about 21 lbs.

Kramer is quiet, very smart and food motivated—making it easy for his foster mom to teach him to consistently sit and wait for his chow and learn the word “off.” Kramer is very content to be in his over-sized crate with his blanket and a few “chew” items like real bones and other toys. Kramer is crate trained, can use the doggie door, and is largely housebroken. Kramer is energetic and likes to play with toys.

Kramer likes attention and is easy about giving up a toy. He has met many new people and is a little timid at first, but has warmed up after a few minutes. He is a little sensitive about having his feet touched, but he appears to have a happy disposition. He will be a good boy for someone who has the time to work with him.

Kramer tolerates the female Schnauzer mix at his foster home, but has shown some aggression toward her in at least two instances, so he'd probably be best as an only dog.

Kramer is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative medication.

Kramer was adopted on October 4, 2012 by a family from Murphys, where he will join 2 cats.

George

Photo of Rescue Dog George Photo of Rescue Dog George

George is a super cute, super friendly Schnauzer / Yorkie mix who we rescued from the L.A. County shelter in Downey.

George is about 10 months old and weighs about 7 lbs.

George loves everyone and gets along well with other dogs. We haven't had him around children or cats yet, but we're pretty sure he will love them too.

George is ready for a new home. He is neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations.

George was adopted on September 27, 2012 by a couple from Wilmington, NC. They are in the film industry. They wanted a compact dog who could travel in-cabin on the plane on their many trips, and George fills the bill perfectly.

Tippy (now Cali)

Photo of Rescue Dog Tippy Photo of Rescue Dog Tippy

Tippy is a purebred female black Miniature Schnauzer, who is about 7–8 years old. We rescued Tippy from the Orange County shelter. Tippy has natural ears and a docked tail.

Tippy is a real sweetie. The photo on the left was taken right after we pulled her from the shelter. The photo on the right was taken about a week later after she was groomed, adopted, and given her new name—Cali. She looks a lot prettier and a lot happier, doesn't she.

Tippy is a happy girl who loves everyone and gets along well with other dogs.

Tippy is spayed, microchipped and current on vaccinations.

Thanks very much to CARMAOC Rescue which had an adopter looking for an older black Schnauzer and agreed to place her for us less than a week after we rescued Tippy. Tippy went to her new foster with CARMAOC on September 25, 2012 and was adopted a few days later.

Petey

Photo of Rescue Dog Pete Photo of Rescue Dog Pete

Petey is a very cute young male Affenpinscher mix who was surrendered to us. He is between 1 and 1-1/2 years old, and weighs about 12 lbs.

Diva is a purebred female salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer, who is about 5 years old. We rescued Diva from the San Bernardino City shelter, along with Angelo and Monte, who have already been adopted.

Diva is a pretty girl. Diva has natural ears and a docked tail. She is a bit smaller than average in size for a female Miniature Schnauzer, perhaps about 13 lbs.

Diva is a very sweet dog. She likes everyone and gets along well with other dogs.

Diva is spayed and microchipped and will be current on vaccinations before placement.

Diva was adopted by a Glendale family on September 23, 2012. She joins a 7-year old male Miniature Schnauzer adopted from our friends at Miniature Schnauzers & Friends Rescue.

Rollie

Honey

Photo of Rescue Dog Honey Photo of Rescue Dog Honey

Honey is a very pretty, very sweet, and very intelligent purebred female salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer, who we rescued from the Orange County shelter. She is about 7 years old.

Sadly, Honey suffers from dry eye and her sight is somewhat impaired from lack of adequate treatment. She is also borderline diabetic, almost certainly from having been obese. We have been advised, however, that her sugar levels can probably be controlled by getting her weight back to normal and by keeping her on a quality diet for senior dogs.

Honey is housebroken, spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.

Honey was adopted on September 22, 2012 by a caring couple from Murrieta, who open their home and hearts to hard to senior and special needs dogs. Honey will join Billy, whom they adopted from Meade Canine Rescue Foundation, and Lonnie, whom they adopted from us.

Molly

Photo of Rescue Dog Molly

Molly is a very sweet, purebred female Miniature Schnauzer who is about one year old. A family in Stockton found Molly and asked us to take her.

Molly's tibia (the lower leg bone) was broken in two places. The needed surgery involved putting in a plate and pins to repair the break.

Molly's foster took her to their vet in Yuba City who called in an orthopedic surgery specialist to perform the surgery on July 23, 2012. Molly was spayed at the same time to avoid putting her under anesthesia twice. The surgery went well. Molly's prognosis is good because she is young and in good health.

The cost of Molly's surgery and follow-up care was just under $2,500. We asked for help and we received it! Thank you VERY much to everyone who contributed towards the cost of Molly's surgery.

Molly was adopted by a family from Yuba City in mid-September 2012.

Sidney appears to be in good health. He is microchipped. He will be neutered and up to date on vaccinations before placement.

Sidney was adopted in mid-September 2012.

Abby

Photo of Rescue Dog Abby Photo of Rescue Dog Abby

Abby is a 6 year old female salt and pepper purebred Miniature Schnauzer.  She is a very friendly little girl who weighs about 20 pounds.

Abby has a great disposition, is good with people, and cats, and would be okay with one smaller middle aged or older dog but would prefer to be an only dog.

Abby needs a new home because her present home is too busy and noisy for her. She would be best in a quiet home with minimal hardwood floors.

Abby loves car rides and to be walked. She would make a great companion dog for a retired person.

Abby is housebroken, spayed, microchipped, and current on all her vaccines.

Abby was adopted on September 16, 2012 and is now living in Turlock.

Hans

Photo of Rescue Dog Hans Photo of Rescue Dog Hans

Hans is a 3 year old white male Miniature Schnauzer who we rescued from the Animal Friends of the Valley shelter in Wildomar. He looked something like an unkempt Westie when we picked him up from the shelter, but we knew he would be a beautiful Miniature Schnauzer once we got him groomed.

Hans is friendly and likes other dogs. Hans is super cute and full of energy.

Hans appears to be good health. He is microchipped, neutered and up to date on vaccinations.

Hans was adopted on September 15, 2012 by a family from Montrose.

Photo of Rescue Dog Tim Photo of Rescue Dog Tim

Tim is a purebred male salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer. He has uncropped ears and a docked tail. He is about 1–2 years old, and weighs about 15 lbs. We rescued Tim from the Baldwin Park shelter. Tim is an friendly dog, who is a little more laid back than some of our others. He gets along well with other dogs.

Tim appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.

Tim was adopted on September 15, 2012 by a family from West Los Angeles.

Alexander the GREAT PUPPY

Photo of Rescue Dog Alexander Photo of Rescue Dog Alexander

In early August, we were contacted by a veterinarian who asked us to rescue an 8-week puppy who had been surrendered to her because he had parvovirus and the treatment would be expensive.

The vet told us that she should know by the following Monday if the little guy would make it. If we agreed to take him, we’d have to pay the vet bills, which she would cap at $1,800. (The high cost of treating puppies with parvo is due to the need to give them IV fluids and monitor them closely for several days.)

We said yes, because the veterinarians say that parvo dogs go on to live normal, healthy lives

Alexander is a very happy and a very smart puppy. He soon learned how to climb out of his exercise pen, requiring us to put a roof on it. When we got him a toy that dispenses treats when pressed correctly, Alexander not only figured out how the toy worked, but developed his own technique of causing it to dispense treats 3 at a time rather than 1 at a time.

Alexander was adopted by a family in Kensington on September 14, 2012, where he will enjoy a view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Yeah, Alexander!!!

Savannah

Photo of Rescue Dog Savannah Photo of Rescue Dog Savannah

Barry, now named Dexter

Photo of Rescue Dog Barry Photo of Rescue Dog Barry

We think Barry is about 5 years old. He's super-friendly, likes greeting strangers, and likes other dogs and is okay with cats.

Barry is in good health and is housebroken and crate-trained. He walks well on a lead. He is current on vaccinations.

Barry was adopted on September 8, 2012, by a gentleman in San Jose who also adopted Rosie. Barry and Rosie seemed to enjoy each other's company and their adopter was thrilled with both of them.

Rosie, now named Duchess

Rosie is a 5 year old female salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer who was an owner surrender to us. Rosie is about average size for a female Miniature Schnauzer.

Rosie is a happy, energetic, friendly little girl. She loves people, gets along with other dogs and does not seem to mind cats.

Rosie is in good health and is current on vaccinations.

Lonnie

Photo of Rescue Dog Lonnie

Lonnie is a neutered, black Miniature Schnauzer, who came to us from the Lancaster shelter. He is about 10 years old, but acts much younger. Lonnie is a lively little guy who loves to run and play. He loves people and other dogs, and he is friendly with cats.

Lonnie is in good health but lost one of his eyes after it became badly infected, apparently because the former owner allowed matted hair to cover the eye for a long time. (We had the eye removed to avoid any chance of infection to the rest of his system.) Fortunately, Lonnie sees just fine out of his remaining eye.

You won't find a better friend anywhere. Lonnie is housebroken, neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on vaccinations.

Lonnie was adopted on September 1, 2012 by a family in Murrieta, where he joins a 7 year old Miniature Schnauzer named Billy. Yeah, Lonnie!

Monte (formerly Mickey, and before that Marcello)

Photo of Rescue Dog Herbie

Monte is a purebred salt & pepper male Standard Schnauzer, who is about 3 years old. We rescued Monte from the San Bernardino City shelter, along with his “Dad,” a tan mix named Angelo, and his “Mom,” a purebred Miniature Schnauzer.

Monte is 17" at the withers and somewhat overweight, but is on a diet to get back into shape. This photo was taken the day he got out of the shelter. He has since been groomed by master groomer Carol Hansen.

Monte is an exceptionally sweet dog who loves everyone. He gets along well with other dogs too.

Monte is neutered and microchipped. He was vet-checked and brought current on vaccinations before placement.

Judy Legan of Standard Schnauzer Club of Southern California Rescue kindly agreed to foster Monte and place him after we rescued him and found that Monte was a Standard, and not a Miniature as the shelter had listed him.

Monte went to his new home with a family in Costa Mesa on September 1, 2012, where he joins a 9 year old human girl who adores him and a 2 year old black Standard Schnauzer. Thanks, Judy, for finding Monte his new home.

Zora

Photo of Rescue Dog Zora Photo of Rescue Dog Zora

Zora is cute as a button. We don't know her parentage, but a Schnauzer / Lakeland cross seems like a good guess. Zora is about 2 to 3 years old and weighs about 10 lbs. We rescued her from the Los Angeles North Central shelter where she was at risk of being euthanized because they were so full.

Zora 's eyebrows and beard have a trace of tan in them and her coat and leg hair are somewhat harder than is typical on a Schnauzer. She loves to wag her long tail.

Zora loves people and enjoys the company of other dogs. We have not had her around cats or young children yet, but we think she would probably be okay with both.

Zora appears to be in good health. She is microchipped and up to date on vaccinations, and will be spayed before placement.

Zora was adopted by a family in Sonora on August 11, 2012.

Spike and Kiri are beginning to show their playful personalities. They know how to use the doggie door and are quiet. They are crate trained and very gentle. They get along well with the other dogs in their foster home.

Bert

Photo of Rescue Dog Bert Photo of Rescue Dog Bert

Bert is a purebred black male Standard Schnauzer. He weighs about 32.5 lbs and he is 19" at the withers. He seems to be about 2 years old. We rescued Bert from the Bakersfield shelter, groomed him, and then turned Bert over to Standard Schnauzer rescue which kindly agreed to foster and place Bert.

Bert is very friendly and sweet. He loves to be patted, and he likes other dogs. We have not had Bert around children or cats yet.

Bert appears to be in good health. He is microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and he will be neutered before placement.

A big thank you to Standard Schnauzer Club of Northern California and Dottie Michelmore for fostering Bert and finding him a great new home. A family in Richmond adopted Bert on August 7, 2012.

Connie

Photo of Rescue Dog Connie Photo of Rescue Dog Connie

Connie is a purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer. She is about 5 years old. Connie weighs 16 lbs. We rescued Connie from the Irvine shelter.

Connie was given a thorough checkup by the shelter and appears to be in good health. She is microchipped, spayed, and up to date on vaccinations.

Connie was adopted on August 5, 2012 by a family from Montrose.

Angelo

Photo of Rescue Dog Angel

Angelo is a super friendly Schnauzer mix. We rescued Angelo from the San Bernardino shelter, along with 2 other dogs, hours before they would otherwised have been euthanized.

Angelo weighs about 17 lbs. He loves people and gets along well with other dogs. We have not had him around young children or cats, so we do not know for sure how he would react to them.

Angelo is neutered and microchipped, and will be up to date on vaccinations before placement.

Angelo was adopted on August 3, 2012 by a retired couple who have an 11 year old female Miniature Schnauzer. As soon as she gave her approval, Angelo was out the door on the way to his new home in Escalon.

Sophie

Photo of Rescue Dog Sophie Photo of Rescue Dog Sophie

Sophie is the magic elastic dog. The Mojave shelter listed Sophie as a terrier mix. We assumed she was about the size of a Miniature Schnauzer, and we were about to pull her since she is so darn cute, when the shelter changed her description to "Irish Wolfhound mix"! The truth is that Sophie is "Miss In-between." Sophie is medium sized, about 40 lbs.; and she seems to be about 3 years old.

What no-one ever doubted is that Sophie is a great dog with a sparkling personality. Sophie won the hearts of the folks at the very busy Kern County shelter system, she won our hearts, and she will win your heart too.

Sophie loves people and is good with other dogs. We have not had her around small children or cats yet.

Sophie appears to be in good health. She is microchipped and will be up to date on vaccinations and spayed before placement.

Sophie was adopted by a family in Murphys, California on July 31, 2012.

Bonnie

Photo of Rescue Dog Bonnie Photo of Rescue Dog Bonnie

Bonnie is a gorgeous small salt & pepper purebred Miniature Schnauzer. We rescued her from the Bakersfield shelter. Bonnie is about 1 to 2 years old. She is on the small size, about 13 lbs.

Bonnie's beard is a little lopsided right now because Bonnie had an encounter of the bad kind with foxtails. As a result, the shelter to shave her and cut off part of her beard. She will look even prettier when her hair grows back in. Bonnie had infections in her ears and on the roof of her mouth due to embedded foxtails. We've had that treated and will have Bonnie spayed soon.

Bonnie is high energy. She loves everyone and gets along well with other dogs. We have not had her around cats or young children yet, but we think she would probably be okay with both.

Bonnie appears to be in good health. She is microchipped and up to date on vaccinations, and will be spayed before placement.

Bonnie was adopted by a family from Lancaster on July 20, 2012.

Brewster

Photo of Rescue Dog Brewster Photo of Rescue Dog Brewster

Brewster and Bogey are a pair of nice, friendly 2-year old Tibetan Terriers who were left tied up outside the Hesperia shelter. The shelter called us, thinking they might be Schnauzers. They aren't, but we could not leave such nice dogs there to die. The boys are roughly 35 lbs each.

Brewster and Bogey love people, love each other, and get along well with other dogs. We have not had them around cats or young children yet, but we think they'd probably be okay with both.

We would prefer to place Brewster and Bogey together but would consider placing them separately.

Brewster appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.

Brewster and Bogey were adopted together on July 19, 2012, where they join a 10 year old dog named Bodie who, we are told, acts more like 5 years old. Let's hope they enjoy their new home in Garnerville, NV.

Sunny

Photo of Rescue Dog Sunny Photo of Rescue Dog Sunny

Sunny is a 2 year old purebred female salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer with a sparkling personality. She weighs about 12–13 lbs. Sunny came to us after her former owners abandoned her when they separated.

Sunny is very friendly, loves to play, and gets along with other dogs and with cats.

Sunny is housebroken and appears to be in good health. She is spayed and current on vaccinations.

Sunny was adopted by a family from Lebec on July 8, 2012.

Misty

Photo of Rescue Dog Misty Photo of Rescue Dog Misty

Misty is a drop-dead gorgeous 2-year old purebred salt & pepper female Miniature Schnauzer. We rescued Misty from the Kern County shelter in Bakersfield.

Misty is on the small size, probably about 12 lbs, but there is nothing small about her personality. Misty is friendly, outgoing, loves people, gets along well with other dogs.

Misty appears to be in good health. She is microchipped and up-to-date on vaccinations, and will be spayed before placement.

Misty was adopted by a family from Stockton on July 8, 2012.

Rufo

Photo of Rescue Dog Rufo Photo of Rescue Dog Rufo

Rufo came to us from the Hesperia shelter, along with a small female Miniature Schnauzer named Muneca. Rufo is 3 to 4 years old and weighs 18 to 20 lbs. (His buddy Muneca is considerably smaller, probably about 12 lbs.)

Rufo and Muneca were surrendered to the shelter, not strays, so we know a bit more about them than we do about some others. Both are super-friendly, and get along well with dogs, cats and children. Rufo and Muneca like each other, but are not dependent on each other, so they can be placed together or separately.

Rufo appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.

Rufo was adopted on July 7, 2012, by a family from Bakersfield who have a Schnauzer named Max. Rufo and Max seemed to enjoy each other's company immediately.

Matt Foley

Photo of Rescue Dog Matt Photo of Rescue Dog Matt

We rescued Matt from the Riverside shelter. We named him after Matt Foley, the character played by Chris Farley on Saturday Night Live who “lived in a van down by the river.”

The shelter thought Matt was a rather large white Miniature Schnauzer. However, when we groomed him it became apparent that Matt is a Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier. He is about 1 year old.

Matt is a friendly guy. He gets along fine with other dogs, but does want to be the boss. He'd be fine with a larger dog, a female, or a submissive male, but probably would not be good with another alpha male of about the same size. We have not had him around children so we don't know how he is with kids.

Matt appears to be in good health. He is microchipped, neutered, and up to date on vaccinations.

Matt was adopted in late June 2012. Thanks so much to Soft-Coated Wheaten rescue for finding Matt a new home.

Maury

Photo of Rescue Dog Maury Photo of Rescue Dog Maury

Maury is a very cute and friendly Schnauzer mix. We rescued Maury and his buddy, Mark, from the Mojave shelter the day before they were scheduled to be euthanized.

Maury is about 1 year old. He is a very cute little guy but somewhat scared by all the changes in his short life—and shelters can be a scary place for any dog, let alone a puppy.

Maury is friendly and we are confident he'll be more outgoing once he gets adjusted to his new life outside of the shelter. His pal Mark seems to have taken Maury under his wing (paw?), and is helping Maury feel more comfortable. Maury likes people and other dogs.

Maury appears to be in good health. He weighs about 12 lbs. He will be neutered and up to date on vaccinations before placement.

Maury was adopted in late June 2012 by a family from Twain Harte.

Nacho

Photo of Rescue Dog Maury

Nacho is a friendly, energetic brown and black terrier mix. He is about 2 years old and weighs about 16 lbs.

Nacho gets along with other dogs, but will chase cats. We haven't had him around young children, but we think he'd probably be fine with older children.

Nacho appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.

Nacho was adopted in late June 2012 by a Sonora family who had been fostering him.

Barney

Photo of Rescue Dog Barney Photo of Rescue Dog Barney

We rescued Barney from the Bakersfield shelter where they were going to euthanize him if a rescue did not take him quickly. Barney is a 7 month old Miniature Schnauzer puppy who was on the losing end of an encounter with a field full of foxtails. He was covered with them. One did a number on his left eye and a couple were even stuck in his private parts. Grooming him was described as trying to groom a screaming, squirming porcupine. Look at the AMAZING job our master groomers, Joyce and Darcel did on him! But it wasn't easy for Barney or the groomer's. Look how red Joyce's arms are from being scratched up with the foxtails.

Barney is a little guy. He likes people and other dogs. We don't know yet how he is with cats. However, it appears that his former owners did not spend much time with him and he'd definitely benefit from some training.

Barney's left eye is still inflamed but should heal up quickly. He appears to be in good health. He's neutered and will be up to date on vaccinations before placement.

Barney was adopted by a family from Valencia on June 24, 2012.

Harriet

Photo of Rescue Dog Harriet Photo of Rescue Dog Harriet

Harriet is a super-friendly young female black Miniature Schnauzer, who came to us from the Hesperia shelter. We think she is about 1-1/2 years old. Harriet is on the smaller size for a female Miniature Schnauzer, probably about 13 lbs.

Harriet is a real sweetie. She loves people, enjoys the company of other dogs, and seems to be okay with cats.

Harriet appears to be in good health. She is housebroken, spayed and up to date on vaccinations.

Harriet was adopted on June 23, 2012 by a family from Rancho Murieta.

Jack

Photo of Rescue Dog Jack Photo of Rescue Dog Jack

Jack was an owner-surrender from an owner who could no longer keep him. He is a purebred, male salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer, who is about 4 years old.

Jack is a high energy, very playful and fun-loving Schnauzer. He loves people, enjoys playing with other dogs and is okay with cats.

Jack appears to be in good health. Jack is housebroken, neutered, and will be current on vaccinations before placement.

Jack was adopted by a gentleman from Hesperia on June 22, 2012.

Nick

Photo of Rescue Dog Nick Photo of Rescue Dog Nick

Nick is a purebred male salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer. We rescued Nick from the Devore shelter the day before he was scheduled to be euthanized.

Nick is about 7 years old. He has natural ears and a docked tail.

Nick is a happy and friendly guy. He gets along very well with other dogs and even with cats. We had him at Joyce Nagel's in Palmdale before we found him a new foster home. Nick was great in helping newly rescued dogs, who were really scared after their stint in the shelters, adjust and become happy dogs again.

Nick appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.

In June 2012, Nick was adopted by a family in Upland who have a Standard Schnauzer and another Miniature for Nick to play with.

Mark

Photo of Rescue Dog Mark Photo of Rescue Dog Mark

Mark is a very cute and very friendly Schnauzer mix. We rescued Mark and his friend, Maury, from the Mojave shelter the day before they were scheduled to be euthanized.

Mark is about 4 years old. Believe it or not, some @#$* had abandoned poor Mark in an apartment where some kind person found him and called Animal Control.

Mark is outgoing and seems to have taken the younger Maury under his wing (paw?). Mark loves people and seems to like other dogs.

Mark appears to be in good health. He weighs about 12 lbs. He will be neutered and up to date on vaccinations before placement.

Mark was adopted by a Sonora family on June 9, 2012.

Finn

Photo of Rescue Dog Finn

Finn is a 7 year old purebred salt & pepper male Miniature Schnauzer. He weighs 27 pounds. Finn has uncropped ears and an undocked tail.

Finn needs to find another loving home because his owner passed away recently.

Finn is house trained, active, healthy and intelligent. He is able to shake/sit on command and listens well. He likes to go on walks and car rides.  He has spent the last month at a boarding kennel in Orange County, California, and has interacted well with all breeds of dogs.

See Finn in his own video:
https://vimeo.com/43368679

Finn appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.

Finn went to a great new home in early June 2012

Guinness

Photo of Rescue Dog Guinness Photo of Rescue Dog Guinness

Guinness is an adorable 6-month old female chocolate Miniature Schnauzer who needs a new home. She is outgoing, friendly, and an artiste at giving kisses. She is a very petite girl. She weighs only 8–9 lbs. and probably will not grow much larger.

Guinness has a responsible owner who is concerned about having to leave Guinness alone during 11-hour workdays and her inability to give Guinness the attention and exercise this sweet girl deserves. Guinness had a senior cat as a companion, but he died recently and now she is alone in the house during most weekdays.

Guinness dug her way out of the back yard once, so when she can't go to doggy day care she must spend long days at home alone without access to the yard. In spite of this she does not chew and is not destructive, and has had only one accident in the house—remarkable for a Schnauzer so young. Guinness is good with other dogs, cat-friendly, and okay with children.

Guinness is in good health, up-to-date on shots, and has sparkling white teeth. She needs only to be spayed. (Her vet has recommended that she not be spayed until she is a year old because she is so small.)

The best home for Guinness would probably be one where she has another young Schnauzer or small dog or cat as a companion, with adopters who are retired or have the flexibility to be at home part of the day and give her attention and exercise. This little girl will bring joy to any family who adopts her. Her video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wvuLgc526I, shows how full of life she is!

Guinness was adopted on June 9, 2012, by a family in Santa Rosa who have kindly fostered many dogs for our rescue program.

Henry

Photo of Rescue Dog Henry Photo of Rescue Dog Henry

Henry is a purebred 6-1/2 year old male black & silver Miniature Schnauzer. He weighs 16 lbs, about average for a male Miniature Schnauzer.

Henry needs a new home because his owner was recently divorced and is having to move to an apartment where she cannot keep Henry.

Henry is housebroken, knows how to use to a doggy door, and is crate trained. Henry loves children (but has not been around toddlers), likes other dogs, and ignores cats. Henry is very shy when meeting new people and will need patience and training to overcome his anxiety. He is very affectionate and enjoys cuddling on someone's lap.

Take a look at Henry's video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qVt7ChVT9k

Henry is neutered, microchipped and up to date on his vaccinations. He had a dental a year ago in which most of his teeth were removed.

Henry was adopted on June 3, 2012 by a family from San Lorenzo. He will have a cute schnauzer, Lexie, as a companion.

Lola

Photo of Rescue Dog Lola

Lola is a purebred female Miniature Schnauzer, who weighs about 15 lbs. She is 7 years old.

Lola hales from Louisiana. Lola's former owner got Lola when she was 7 months old and had to give up Lola when she had to move to a hotel after a house fire.

Lola is housebroken. She is really cute and enjoys playing with the two schnauzers in her foster home.

Lola is spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations and receives regular grooming. She has had surgery for a bladder stone and is healthy now but is on a special diet.

Lola was adopted by a family in Pleasanton on May 30, 2012, and is enjoying the companionship of her new Schnauzer friend, Bo.

Dakota

Photo of Rescue Dog Dakota Photo of Rescue Dog Dakota

We rescued Dakota from the L.A. County Downey shelter, where he was about to be euthanized. The shelter had listed Dakota as a Miniature Schnauzer / Poodle mix, but we think he is a Tibetan Terrier. He is larger than a Miniature Schnauzer, probably about 30 lbs.

Dakota's story is sad, but not unusual. He was a family pet one day, and then dumped at the shelter the next because the family's son was allergic to him.

Poor Dakota was terrified at the shelter, and he began to bare his teeth at the staff. They then branded Dakota as aggressive and made him available to rescues only. However, as soon as we got Dakota out of the shelter, he calmed right down. After we got him, he would still bare his teeth at strangers, but would make friends and want to play and cuddle within minutes, as can be seen in the photo above, taken less than half an hour after he arrived at his foster home.

Dakota appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.

Dakota was adopted on May 27, 2012 by a family from Santa Monica. It was love at first sight as soon as they met Dakota and as soon as Dakota met them.

Coco and Gigi

Photo of Rescue Dog Coco Photo of Rescue Dog Gigi

Coco and Gigi are a cute pair of small (9–10 lbs.) Miniature Schnauzer sisters who are 3-1/2 years old. They have belonged to the same owners since they were puppies. Their owners have 10–12 hour workdays and must even work weekends. They are concerned that these little girls are spending too much time alone and seldom get the attention and exercise they need.

Coco and Gigi must be placed together because they are very bonded with each other. They are used to sleeping in their owners’ bedroom at night and enjoy taking naps in a lap. Both enjoy being groomed. They are good with other dogs and have been fine around older children. See their video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToUReJOA9wc

We would like to place Coco and Gigi in a home where they will have human companionship for at least part of the day, affection, and regular exercise.

Coco and Gigi are both spayed, current on shots, microchipped, and housebroken (both also know how to use pet pads in the house).

Coco and Gigi were adopted on May 27, 2012 by a family in San Jose who had fostered them.

Lloyd

Photo of Rescue Dog Lloyd Photo of Rescue Dog Lloyd

Lloyd is a handsome little fellow! He appears to be a purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer. He is about 3 years old and weighs about 16 lbs.

Lloyd has a big personality. He is hoping to find a family who is familiar with Miniature Schnauzers, who can help him blossom! Lloyd would benefit from training classes. He is very smart and highly motivated to do anything for treats! Are you looking for a goofy and active dog to add to your household? Ask to meet Lloyd today!!

Look at Lloyd's video to see what a happy, energetic dog he is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUx886Zyjm8

Lloyd appears to be in good health. He is neutered and up to date on vaccinations.

We did a courtesy listing for Lloyd, who was at Humane Society Silicon Valley, because we didn't have a foster home in which to place him. Fortunately, Lloyd was adopted on May 9, 2012, by someone who told the shelter that they had found him through this website.

Fritz

Photo of Rescue Dog LLoyd Photo of Rescue Dog LLoyd

Fritz is a purebred male salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer who came to us from the Hesperia shelter. We estimate that he is 8–9 years old.

Fritz is very friendly. He likes other dogs and is okay with cats.

Fritz appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations.

Fritz was adopted on May 5, 2012, by a lady from Redlands, who has a 14 year old Schnauzer to keep Fritz company.

Howard

Photo of Rescue Dog Howard Photo of Rescue Dog Howard

Howard is a purebred salt & pepper male Miniature Schnauzer, who is about 4 years old. Howard was found running loose in northern California, along with Sheldon, Leonard, Penny and Amy. We think he is likely the father of Sheldon, Leonard and Penny.

Howard has uncropped ears but, unlike the rest of the Big Bang Theory gang, his tail is docked.

Howard is a fun guy—but we doubt that he can do magic tricks. He loves everyone: people, kids, dogs, cats—anyone who wants to play.

Howard appears to be in good health. He is neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations.

Howard was adopted by a retired attorney from Los Angeles on March 4, 2012.

Lorna

Photo of Rescue Dog Lorna Photo of Rescue Dog Lorna

Lorna, as is evident from her photos, is a super cute young female Miniature Schnauzer. We got her from the Lancaster shelter, which was going to euthanize Lorna because she had an upper respiratory infection. We rescued her and she is doing just fine.

Lorna is only about 5–7 months old. She is tiny, about 8–9 lbs.

Lorna is super-friendly. She hasn't met anyone yet who she does not love. She even seems to like cats.

Lorna appears to be in good health. She is microchipped, spayed, and up to date on vaccinations.

Lorna was adopted on May 1, 2012 by a family who adopted Amy as well.

Amy

Photo of Rescue Dog Amy Photo of Rescue Dog Amy

Amy is a salt & pepper female Miniature Schnauzer. We think she is about 6 years old. Amy was found running loose in northern California, along with Sheldon, Leonard, Penny and Howard. We do not know if she is the mother of Sheldon, Leonard and Penny.

Like the puppies, Amy is “au naturel,” with uncropped ears and an undocked tail.

Amy is a fun dog, not repressed like Amy on the TV show. She loves everyone: people, kids, dogs, cats—anyone who wants to play.

Amy appears to be in good health. She is spayed and up-to-date on vaccinations.

Amy was adopted on May 1, 2012 by a family who adopted Lorna as well.

Benjamin

Photo of Rescue Dog Benjamin Photo of Rescue Dog Benjamin

Benjamin is a very friendly male Miniature Schnauzer mix who we rescued from the San Bernardino City shelter. He appears to be around 1 year old. He weighs about 10 to 11 lbs.

Benjamin (Bennie to his friends) loves everyone and gets along with other dogs.

Benjamin has natural ears and a long tail, and shiny white teeth.

Benjamin appears to be in good health. He will be neutered and up to date on vaccinations before placement.

Benjamin was adopted on April 30, 2012 by a family in Sonora. He will be going to his new home in a few days after he is neutered, where he will join his pal, Andrew.

Andrew

Photo of Rescue Dog Ammo Photo of Rescue Dog Ammo

Andrew is a young male Miniature Schnauzer mix who comes to us from the Indio shelter. Thanks to Cathy Borrego for helping transport Andrew part way to us.

We'd guess Andrew is about a year to a year and a half old. Andrew is a little longer than a purebred Schnauzer, but is really cute. He has natural ears and tail. He weighs about 14 lbs.

Andrew is a little shy at first but warms up to affection. He gets along with other dogs. He will make someone a super pet.

Andrew appears to be in good health. He is neutered and up to date on vaccinations.

Andrew was adopted by a family in Sonora on April 30, 2012. He will be joined by his pal, Benjamin, in a few days after Benjamin is neutered.

Bella

Photo of Rescue Dog Bella

Bella is a very pretty, 3 year old, purebred salt & pepper female Miniature Schnauzer. Bella needs a new home because her owner is terminally ill. Bella is being fostered by her owner's sister, but does not like her foster's Scottie. Bella weighs about 16 lbs., pretty typical for a Miniature Schnauzer.

Bella is a friendly dog who loves to snuggle.  She only barks when there is something around the house that needs to get her foster's attention, such as someone at the door, someone driving up the driveway, or the phone ringing.  She stops barking as soon as told to stop. Bella enjoys being brushed and did not fuss when being washed or having a sweater put on her. She is fine with children. She enjoys going for walks and walks well in a harness.

Bella is housebroken. She will be spayed and up to date on vaccinations before placement.

Bella was adopted on April 29, 2012 by a family in Roseville. Bella joins their "Chiwienie" (Chihuahua/Dachshund mix) who will now have Bella for company.

Bart

Photo of Rescue Dog Bart Photo of Rescue Dog Bart

Bart is a happy little purebred male Miniature Schnauzer who we rescued from the San Bernardino City shelter. He appears to be between 1 and 2 years old. He weighs less than 15 lbs.

Bart is a big ham. As soon as he saw the camera, a big smile appeared on his face. He loves giving kisses and he gets along well with other dogs.

Bart has natural ears and a docked tail, and shiny white teeth.

Bart appears to be in good health. He is neutered and up to date on vaccinations.

Bart was adopted on April 28, 2012 by a family from Simi Valley who have a black Schnauzer to keep Bart company.

Riley

Photo of Rescue Dog Riley Photo of Rescue Dog Riley

Riley is a purebred male salt and pepper Miniature Schnauzer. He is 4 years old (almost 5). Riley needs a new home because he needs more attention than his present owners can give him.

Riley is very energetic. He loves to go the dog park and chase after the big dogs, because he's a super fast runner. He enjoys long walks, and frequent trips to the dog park because he is full of energy. He has the spunk of a puppy, even though he is nearly 5 years old.

Riley is incredibly sweet, and loves snuggling. He is good with cats. He enjoys wrestling and playing with the cat in his present home, who has become a close friend of Riley's. Riley has not been around children much, but has seemed to be okay with them on the few occasions they have been around.

Riley is house-broken, neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations.

Riley was adopted on April 28, 2012 by a family from Fremont.

Casey

Photo of Rescue Dog Casey

Casey is a 10 year old purebred salt & pepper male Miniature Schnauzer, who was born on 9/15/2001. Casey is somewhat overweight. He weighs 34 lbs. Casey has uncropped ears and a docked tail.

Casey spent his entire life in a loving home shared by Finn, another Schnauzer, for the past 5 years. Their owner passed away recently and Casey needs to find another loving home.

Casey is very gently and loving with a sweet disposition. He loves attention and gives affection readily. He likes to go on walks and does well with a Gentle lead. Casey's owner was not able to exercise him or take him out much, so he needs some exercise.

Casey is neutered and appears to be in good health.

We did a courtesy listing for the lady who cared for him and his friend Finn after their owne3r passed away. Casey was adopted in April 2012.

CiCi

Photo of Rescue Dog CiCi Photo of Rescue Dog CiCi

CiCi is a young Schnauzer mix who we rescued from the Hesperia shelter the day before she was scheduled to be euthanized because they were out of space. CiCi is a very outgoing girl who is about one and a half years old. She looks like she is a Schnauzer/Poodle mix.

CiCi seems to get along with everyone and enjoys being with other dogs.

CiCi appears to be good health. She will be spayed and up to date on vaccinations before placement.

CiCi is once again a resident of Hesperia. She was adopted by a lady in Hesperia who fell in love with CiCi as soon as she saw her.

Leonard

Leonard is a purebred salt & pepper male Miniature Schnauzer, who is about 5–6 months old. He was found running loose in northern California, along with Sheldon, Penny, Amy and Howard.

Penny is a purebred salt & pepper female Miniature Schnauzer, who is about 5–6 months old. She was found running loose in northern California, along with Sheldon, Leonard, Amy and Howard.

Like Leonard, Penny is “au naturel,” with uncropped ears and an undocked tail.

Penny loves everyone: people, kids, dogs, cats—anyone who wants to play.

Penny appears to be in good health. She is spayed and up-to-date on vaccinations.

Penny and Leonard were adopted by a family in Temple City on April 8, 2012.

Brownie (aka Sunny)

Photo of Rescue Dog Sunny Photo of Rescue Dog Sunny

Brownie is a sweet little female terrier mix with a sunny disposition. She appears to be about a year old, possibly less. Brownie was found running loose. She is small, probably about 10 to 11 lbs.

Some kind people in the neighborhood fed Brownie for about 6 weeks and then asked us to find her a home since no-one had come looking for her.

Brownie was terrified when we first got her but, as scared as she was, never snapped or bit. She likes other dogs so long as they are quiet and do not frighten her. We have not had her around young children or cats, but Brownie seems to have a “live and let live philosophy.”

Brownie appears to be in good health. Someone must have given her a bath before turning her over to us, because she was neither dirty nor smelly. She is spayed and up to date on vaccinations.

Brownie was adopted by a family in Sonora. They have another dog with whom Brownie quickly made friends.

Prancer

Photo of Rescue Dog Prancer

Prancer is a young purebred black male Miniature Schnauzer who we rescued from the Upland shelter on February 13, 2012. We believe he is about 1 1/2 to 2 years old.

Prancer was adopted and returned to the shelter because he nipped the adopter—without breaking the skin. Prancer is definitely friendly and not aggressive, but he will need a home with an experienced dog owner who can train him to play more gently.

Prancer appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.

Prancer was adopted on March 31, 2012 by a family from Sparks, NV. Prancer will join a 6 year old Miniature Schnauzer named Cyrus.

Albert

Photo of Rescue Dog Albert Photo of Rescue Dog Albert

Albert is a male purebred salt and pepper Miniature Schnauzer. We rescued Albert from the West Los Angeles shelter, after he appeared on the “New Hope” alert list.

The shelter estimated Albert's age at 3 years old. We think he is between 2 and 3. He weighs about 23 lbs.

Albert is friendly. He allowed Joyce to groom him without complaint within a half hour after arriving at her place and clearly is used to being groomed. He was quiet while being groomed even with another dog being groomed right next to him and with 2 cats on an adjacent table.

Albert appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations.

Albert was adopted by a Santa Barbara family on March 30, 2012.

Coco

Photo of Rescue Dog Coco Photo of Rescue Dog Coco

Coco is a super-cute little girl. We think she might be a Miniature Schnauzer / Norwich Terrier mix. (We asked Coco, but she is not talking.) We rescued Coco from the Lancaster shelter on February 13, 2012, shortly before she was to be euthanized.

Coco appears to be under 2 years old, weighs 12 lbs., and has natural ears and tail.

Coco has a sparkling personality. She is friendly with the two older dogs in her foster home. She quickly learned how to use a doggie door so she could enjoy the backyard with the other pups, brings her ball back when she plays retrieve with her humans, and is not possessive with food or toys.

It appears Coco is not experienced with leash walks, but she is getting training in her foster home on calm walking. She shows no fear of young children, adults and other dogs, and greets every human and canine she meets on her walks with joy shown in a madly swishing tail, even patiently sitting while being admired and petted. We do not know yet how she will do around cats.

Coco is spayed, microchipped, and current on rabies and DHPP vaccinations. She will be ready to go to a new adoptive home after March 29, 2012.

Coco was adopted on March 29, 2012 by a family from Santa Rosa. Coco's new best buddy is a Labradoodle.

Dieter

Photo of Rescue Dog Dieter Photo of Rescue Dog Dieter

We rescued Dieter from the Sacramento County shelter. This good looking fellow weighs 19 lbs., about normal for a male Miniature Schnauzer.

Dieter is a purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer with a docked tail and natural ears. We think he is about 5 years old.

Dieter is friendly and likes other dogs. He is crate trained, is learning to use the doggie door and has had no accidents in his foster home. Dieter would be best, however, in a home without small children.

Dieter had been hit by a car before being picked up by animal control. We had him checked out by our vet. Nothing was broken. The vet said his scrapes and bruises will heal with time.

Dieter micro-chipped, neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and heartworm negative.

Dieter was adopted on March 28, 2012 by a retired couple from Alta Sierra.

Magnum

Photo of Rescue Dog Magnum Photo of Rescue Dog Magnum

Magnum is a purebred male black Miniature Schnauzer who was an owner surrender from a couple no longer able to care for him because of their ill health. We estimate that he is about 6 years old. Unlike many of the dogs we get from shelters, Magnum has been lovingly cared for. Magnum is about 16 lbs, pretty average for a male Miniature Schnauzer.

Magnum is very friendly. He likes other dogs. We have not had him around cats yet.

Magnum appears to be in good health. He is house broken, crate trained, neutered, and up-to-date on vaccinations.

Magnum was adopted on March 23, 2012, by a family from San Rafael whose Schnauzer had recently passed away. We trust Magnum will enjoy life in beautiful Marin County.

Sassy

Photo of Rescue Dog Sassy

Sassy is a purebred female black Miniature Schnauzer. Sassy is about 6 years old, and weighs about 13 lbs. Sassy needs a new home because her owner has to move to help her elderly mother and cannot take Sassy with her.

Sassy is a very loving dog, who most enjoys cuddling with her owner.

Sassy has Addison's Disease (the common name for hypoadrenocorticism, or adrenal insufficiency). Sassy takes a SAM-e pill every morning to improve her liver metabolic activity and eats Hill's Prescription Diet i/d Canine Diet. The vet has recommended no other treatment now.

Apart from the Addison's Disease, Sassy appears to be in good health. She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.

We tried hard to place Sassy in a new home. We did not succeed, but we did even better. We convinced her present owner that the top priority in a new home was one to which she could take Sassy. As a result, Sassy will be able to stay with the owner who loves her dearly.

Teddy

Photo of Rescue Dog Teddy Photo of Rescue Dog Teddy

Teddy's fosters offered to rescue him from the Lancaster shelter if we would try to find a home for him. Of course, we said yes, and they took him home on February 17, 2012. We think Teddy is about 3–4 years old. He is on the small size for a male Miniature Schnauzer. He is about 15 lbs, but needs to put on a couple of pounds as he is on the thin side.

Teddy has uncropped ears and a long tail, which he loves to wag. His fosters describe him as a ”gem.” They say he is super sweet, and wants very much to be with people. He gets along well with other dogs and he likes kids. Teddy thinks cats are something fun to chase, so he would likely be best in a home without cats. He walks well on a leash.

Teddy's fosters took him to their vet for a thorough checkup. He has a bit of tartar on his teeth, but none of the teeth are loose. He is heartworm negative and is on Advantix to prevent fleas. He has an ear infection but that is being treated.

Teddy is housebroken, neutered, microchipped, and current on vaccinations.

As often happens with lovable rescue dogs like Teddy, Teddy's fosters decided to adopt him, so Teddy will continue living with them and their Schnauzer, Kaiser, in Burbank.

Kobie

Photo of Rescue Dog Kobie Photo of Rescue Dog Kobie

Kobie is an 8 year old purebred white Miniature Schnauzer. Kobie's owner died and left him to a caretaker, who dumped him at the Lancaster shelter, from which we rescued him.

Kobie is a happy guy—look at that smile! He is very friendly and he loves to run around the grass and play.

Kobie is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. He appears to be in good health, but he is missing some teeth.

Kobie was adopted on March 10, 2012. He will be living in Bakersfield with a female Schnauzer for company.

Abigail

Photo of Rescue Dog Abigail Photo of Rescue Dog Abigail

We rescued Abigail from the Sacramento shelter in February 2012.

Abigail is a purebred female salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer. We estimate her age at 5–6 years old. She weighs about 15 lbs, pretty average for a female Miniature Schnauzer.

Abigail was very itchy and scratching constantly. We put her on on the Natural Balance Limited Ingredient Diets - Sweet Potato & Venison formula dog food. That seems to have solved the problem. Her skin color is back to normal and her hair is growing back in the bare patches. Best of all, Abigail loves the food—she practically inhales it.

Abigail was very timid at first. She has a very sweet disposition and is curious to see what everyone is doing. She is anxious to please and has learned “Off” and “No”. She loves to play ball and will retrieve it again and again. She gets along well with the female Miniature Schnauzer mix in her foster home.

Abigail is housebroken. She goes in and out the dog door and has had no accidents in the house. She is a good girl in the car and seems very relaxed going for a ride.

Abigail is spayed, heartworm negative, and up to date on vaccinations.

Abigail was adopted by a couple in Reno on March 10, 2012.

Conner

Photo of Rescue Dog Conner Photo of Rescue Dog Conner

Conner is a purebred black male Miniature Schnauzer, who is about 2 years old. He was surrendered to us by a breeder in the Barstow area, who was no longer able to keep her dogs.

Conner is friendly, good with other dogs, and okay with cats too.

Conner appears to be in good health. He is neutered and up to date on vaccinations.

Conner was adopted on March 9, 2012 by a family from Bakersfield.

Phoebe

Photo of Rescue Dog Phoebe Photo of Rescue Dog Phoebe

Phoebe is a really sparkling female Schnauzer who is about 2 years old. We got her from the Baldwin Park shelter. The shelter had just pre-spayed Phoebe, meaning they considered her one of their most adoptable dogs. Normally, we would have waited to see if the shelter could adopt Phoebe out themselves, but we were at the shelter to pick up another dog and a shelter volunteer, Tracy Wheeler, who had become very fond of Phoebe urged us to take her as well. How could we say no?

At first glance, Phoebe appears to be a black & silver, but we think she is a very dark salt & pepper because she has some tannish hair mixed in with the black. She is small to average in size for a female Miniature Schnauzer, probably about 14–15 lbs..

Tracy gave us this video of Phoebe before the shelter figured out that Phoebe is a Schnauzer. The video shows what a sweet dog Phoebe really is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8lTD7ULjqk

Phoebe is definitely friendly with people and likes other dogs. We have not yet had her around children or cats, but we expect she'll be fine with them since she seems to have a laid back personality.

Phoebe appears to be in good health. She is spayed, microchipped and newly vaccinated.

Phoebe was adopted on March 8, 2012.

Carson

Photo of Rescue Dog Carson Photo of Rescue Dog Carson

Carson is a cute young Schnauzer mix, who we rescued from the Carson shelter. He was somewhat traumatized by his time at the Carson shelter (which is definitely a scary place for a small young dog) and he is still very scared, but he is affectionate and not in the least aggressive. The shelter estimated Carson's age to be about one year. We think that is about right.

Oddly, Carson has a docked tail, something we almost never see on mixed breed dogs.

Carson is very cute, as can be seen from his photos, and he will look much more Schnauzery when his head is trimmed properly. He weighs about 16 lbs.

Carson is microchipped and newly vaccinated. He will be neutered before placement.

Carson was adopted in early March 2012 by a lady in Sonora who works in a veterinary hospital there.

Kathy

Photo of Rescue Dog Kathy Photo of Rescue Dog Kathy

Kathy is a super cute little Miniature Schnauzer /Smooth Fox Terrier mix who we rescued from the Bakersfield shelter, which was about to euthanize poor little Kathy because they did not have an adopter for her. We could not let that happen. The shelter estimated Kathy's age at about 3 years old. We think she is likely younger than that.

Kathy has a sparkling personality. In fact, she was a favorite among the shelter staff.

Kathy will be spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations before placement.

Kathy was adopted in February 2012.

Sheldon

Photo of Rescue Dog Sheldon Photo of Rescue Dog Sheldon

Sheldon is a purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer puppy. He appears to be about 6 months old, and clearly he is really cute.

Sheldon is one of our “Big Bang Theory” family. Sheldon was found running loose, along with an adult male—Howard, an adult female—Amy, and 2 siblings—Leonard and Penny. (The other 4 are in southern California and we will be listing them shortly.)

Sheldon is still a bit timid, but is coming along. He is very friendly and gets along well with other dogs. We think he is going to be a very handsome Miniature Schnauzer once he is all groomed.

Sheldon is all natural with uncropped ears and undocked tail. He will likely be somewhere around 18–20 lbs when mature.

Sheldon will be neutered and up to date on vaccinations before placement.

Sheldon was adopted on March 3, 2012.

Otis

Photo of Rescue Dog Otis Photo of Rescue Dog Otis

This really cute guy is Otis. Otis needs a new home because his owner is losing her home and needs to move soon to a place that does not allow pets.  Sadly, she does not have any friends or family who are able to take Otis.

Otis is a handsome purebred male salt and pepper Miniature Schnauzer, who is 9 1/2 years old. His owner has had him since he was 8 weeks old and has taken good care of him. (The absence of any staining of his beard is a testament to how clean Otis is kept.)

Otis is very intelligent and loyal. He does well with children, cats, and other dogs. He is on a special diet due to allergies to rice and egg (Royal Canin/IVD limited ingredients). He has always been free fed and has never had a weight problem.  He weighs 16.8 lbs, pretty average for a male Miniature Schnauzer.

Otis is crate trained and knows the basic commands sit, down, stay, back, down, come, up, hush, and heal (leash trained).

Otis is neutered, current on his vaccinations and just had his teeth cleaned.

Otis was adopted on March 3, 2012 by a nurse from Palo Alto.

Sissy

Photo of Rescue Dog Sissy Photo of Rescue Dog Sissy

Sissy is a very cute young female salt & pepper purebred Miniature Schnauzer. She will be 2 years old on April 25, 2012. Sissy needs a new home because her owners have separated.

Sissy is an energetic, playful little girl. She likes people and loves playing with other dogs. She also gets along with a rabbit and birds in her foster home. She plays well with the 5-year old child in her foster home, but probably plays a little rough for a very young toddler.

Sissy is generally housebroken but may have accidents if her owner does not consistently make sure she gets outside. Sissy is still very puppy-like and needs some training as she is extremely rambunctious and can get into some trouble with chewing.

Sissy is in good health, spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.

Sissy went to her new home in Bonny Doon on February 26, 2012. She will join a male 10 year old Miniature Schnauzer.

Jesse

Photo of Rescue Dog Jesse Photo of Rescue Dog Jesse

Jesse is a purebred male black & silver Miniature Schnauzer. Jesse was one of 5 puppies and 5 adults surrendered to us by a breeder who was no longer able to keep them. Jesse is about 4 years old.

Jesse and the others are of a quality rarely seen among rescue dogs; and Jesse has a gorgeous head.

Jesse is friendly and great with other dogs.

Jesse is in good health. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and has had his teeth cleaned.

Jesse was adopted in February 2012, along with Cassie, by a family from Huntington Beach—their Valentine's wish come true.

Cassie

Photo of Rescue Dog Cassie Photo of Rescue Dog Cassie

We received 3 Schnauzers from the Hesperia shelter on January 13, 2012. Two have been adopted.

Cassie, the remaining Hesperia Schnauzer, is a 9 year old black female Miniature Schnauzer. Cassie had a severe ear infection when we got her. We had her ear treated and it is coming along nicely. Cassie is a happy little girl now.

Cassie is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.

Cassie was adopted in February 2012, along with Jesse, by a family from Huntington Beach—their Valentine's wish come true.

Zoe and Gabbi

Photo of Rescue Dogs Zoe and Gabbi

These two cute female Miniature Schnauzers are Zoe & Gabbi. They need a new home because their elderly owner recently passed away.

Zoe and Gabbi wee born on August 27, 2007, making them 4 1/2 years old

Zoe and Gabbi are both very affectionate. They enjoy playing with each other. They are friendly with adults, children, and other dogs, but they do not care for cats. Zoe is the leader and Gabbi is the follower. Zoe likes to be touching you at all times, and likes to sit on your foot like she's protecting you. Gabbi likes to sit in your lap and to snuggle under your chin. They will follow you room to room and never leave your side. They are wonderful companion dogs.

Zoe and Gabbi are in good health and their teeth are in good shape. All of their medical records are available. They are both micro-chipped and spayed. Their last rabies vaccination was in 2008, so they'll need boosters soon.

Zoe and Gabbi were adopted on November 20, 2011 by a couple from Concord.

April

Photo of Rescue Dog April Photo of Rescue Dog April

This is April. She is a mix of white Miniature Schnauzer and . . . we are not sure what. What we are sure is that April is very cute and very loving. We rescued her from the San Bernardino City shelter on February 1, 2012. The shelter estimated her age as about a year old. We think that is about right.

April weighs about 20 lbs. She appears to be in good health. She likes other dogs, and loves to cuddle. She walks pretty well on a lead.

April is current on her DAPP vaccinations and is microchipped. She will be spayed and given a new rabies vaccination before placement.

April was adopted on February 17, 2012 by a retired lady from Sonora. We are confident that they will enjoy each other's company immensely.

Tommy

Photo of Rescue Dog Tommy Photo of Rescue Dog Tommy

Tommy is a very handsome 7-year-old black purebred male Miniature Schnauzer. He was the beloved companion of an elderly lady who recently had to go into nursing care. She owned him from puppyhood and he was an only dog.

We were wondering how Tommy would adjust to his foster home with three Schnauzers and a Greyhound. Well, no problem for this boy! Not only is he a great lap dog, but he’s friendly with other dogs, playful, and does the “Schnauzer dance” with a younger male Schnauzer in his foster home.

As his photos show, Tommy has cropped ears and a docked tail. He is housebroken and used to sleeping in a crate at night. He was exercised daily by his original owner and is a trim 15 lbs.

Tommy’s quality shows in every line. We don’t often see rescue Schnauzers with his looks and conformation. He has a lovely, friendly temperament to match. This Schnauzer comes ready-made for a loving home.

Tommy is neutered, up-to-date on shots, and had recent dental work. We will have him microchipped before adoption.

Tommy was adopted on February 12, 2012 by a lady from Reno, NV.

Sandy

Photo of Rescue Dog Sandy Photo of Rescue Dog Sandy

Sandy appears to be a Lhasa Apso / Shih Tzu mix. He looks to be about 3 years old. Sandy was turned into us as a lost dog and we were not able to find his owner.

What we do know for sure about Sandy is that he is super cute and very friendly. He weighs about 12 lbs. Sandy gets along well with other dogs. We have not had him around children or cats yet.

Sandy appears to be in good health. Sandy will be neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations before adoption.

Sandy was adopted on February 8, 2012 by a family in northern California.

Jack

Photo of Rescue Dog Jack Photo of Rescue Dog Jack

Jack is a male purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer. He is about 6–7 years old, and weighs about 18 lbs.

Jack has a calm temperament and is very friendly meeting new people. He gets along with other dogs. He is crate trained, likes to go for rides in the car, and now knows how to use a doggie door. Jack also likes to go for walks, but pulls a bit so a halter is best for walking him. He was very easy to groom and fairly easy to bathe. He cleans up real nice!

Jack has a way of telling his owner when he thinks it is time for chow: he pushes his bowl around the kitchen floor.

Jack appears to be in good health. He is neutered and up to date on vaccinations.

Jack was adopted on February 4, 2012 by a retired couple from Sonoma.

Willie

Photo of Rescue Dog Willie Photo of Rescue Dog Willie

Willie is a purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer. We think he is about 3 years old. We rescued Willie from the Ventura County shelter on December 30, 2011.

Willie is a compact little Schnauzer. He weighs about 15 lbs. He is friendly and gets along with other dogs. We have not had him around children or cats yet. He seems to be housebroken.

Willie appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations.

Willie was adopted on January 31, 2012 by a couple in Los Angeles, both of whom are screenplay writers and who will do a lot of their work at home under Willie's supervision.

Diamond

Photo of Rescue Dog Diamond Photo of Rescue Dog Diamond

Diamond is a female Schnauzer mix, who is about 3 years old. We rescued her from the Lancaster shelter, to which her former owner took her because he was moving and could not take her.

Diamond is on the small size for a Miniature Schnauzer. She is gray and white with a bit of brown. (She is not as brown as she appears in the photo.) Diamond is very friendly and looks “Schnauzery.”

Diamond is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on her vaccinations.

Diamond was adopted by a Jamestown family on January 30, 2012.

Duffy

Photo of Rescue Dog Duffy Photo of Rescue Dog Duffy

Duffy is a neat purebred black Miniature Schnauzer who was rescued from the San Martin shelter south of San Jose. He was a matted, filthy mess when we got him, but after grooming and bathing he looks and feels sooooo much better! Our thanks to master groomer and MSCNC Schnauzer breeder Judy Sousa for putting the finishing touches on Duffy’s grooming.

Duffy is a tall, slender boy who weighs about 20 lbs. Duffy has a two-toned black coat—his body coat is light black, but his ears, beard, and feet are a darker black. He is a handsome Schnauzer who will look even better when his coat and beard grow out.

Duffy is about 7 years old. He is great with other dogs—non-assertive and quiet. In fact, he has not barked once in his foster home! Duffy is an under-the-radar guy—his gentle tail-wagging ways will win your heart and loyalty. He is easy to walk on a leash and doesn’t react to other people, kids, and dogs he sees on the street.

Duffy is up-to-date on his shots, has been neutered, has had a dental cleaning, and is microchipped. He was not housebroken when he entered fostering, but quickly got the flick of what “outside” means and has not recently made a mistake in the house. He is also crate-trained. This sweet boy is ready to be your best companion ever.

Duffy was adopted on January 28, 2012 by a retired couple in San Jose.

Murphy

Photo of rescue dog Murphy Photo of rescue dog Murphy

Murphy is on the smaller side for a male Miniature Schnauzer. He weighs about 15 lbs. He is all-natural with uncropped ears and undocked tail.

Murphy is a happy, friendly little guy who is looking for a home where he will be loved and can give as much love in return.

Murphy is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.

Murphy was adopted on January 27, 2012. He is now living with his new family in Modesto, which includes a Miniature Poodle and a cat.

Jack

Photo of Rescue Dog Jack

Jack is a purebred male salt and pepper Miniature Schnauzer who is 8–9 years old. Jack needed a new home because his 94 year old owner was moving to an assisted living home.

Jack is a pleasant and intelligent dog, who obeys his owner’s commands. He has been an only dog but does not seem to be overly concerned about other dogs when he is on his walks. On the other hand, he doesn't care much for cats. Jack is a good watch dog. He will bark when someone comes up on the porch, but he never bothers them when they come in the house or he is let out to meet them.

Jack was somewhat overweight because his owner had been spoiling him with everything from yams to eggs.

Jack appears to be in good health. He is neutered, up-to-date on shots, and housebroken.

Jack was adopted in December 2011 by a retired lady in Lafayette.

Venus

Photo of Rescue Dog Venus Photo of Rescue Dog Venus

Venus is a purebred female black & silver Miniature Schnauzer. Venus was one of 5 puppies and 5 adults surrendered to us by a breeder who was no longer able to keep them. Like Bella, Venus is about 3-1/2 years old.

Venus and the others are of a quality rarely seen among rescue dogs; and Venus has a gorgeous head. She will look much like Teddy and Jesse when Joyce gets her groomed.

Venus is friendly and great with other dogs.

Venus is in good health. She will be spayed and up-to-date on vaccinations when adopted—and we will have her teeth cleaned.

Roger has a great personality. He loves everyone and everything and loves to play.

Roger is in good health. He will be up-to-date on vaccinations when adopted.

A family from Moorpark adopted Roger on January 18, 2012. He will join their Standard Schnauzer and their 3 sons.

Brocky

Photo of Rescue Dog Brocky Photo of Rescue Dog Brocky

Brocky is a purebred male salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer. We rescued him from the Fairfield shelter. Brocky is 3 1/2 years old.

Brocky is very cute as can be seen from his photos. He has natural ears and a natural tail, too.

Brocky gets along well with the 10 year old female Miniature Schnauzer mix in his foster home. He is not food or toy aggressive. Brocky does not bark often, but will let his foster mom know if someone is at the door. Brocky is playful, and needs a little training to walk on lead. He is smart and very willing to please. He enjoys being the center of attention. Brocky was somewhat timid when meeting new people when we first got him, but less so now that he has settled down a bit in his foster home. He will make someone a very nice pet.

Brocky has learned to use the doggie door and seems to be housebroken. He is crate-trained.

Brocky is neutered, micro-chipped, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and on heartworm preventative medication.

Brocky was adopted on January 18, 2012 by a family from San Carlos.

Charlotte

Photo of Rescue Dog Charlotte Photo of Rescue Dog Charlotte

Charlotte is a black Miniature Schnauzer, about 8 years old, who is blind in both eyes. ResQpaws rescued her from the Sutter County shelter and we did a courtesy listing for her.

Charlotte had been in her foster home since mid-November. She is very calm and quiet. She got along well with the 2 terriers in her foster home and wanted to play with them. Unfortunately, they wanted nothing to do with her!

Charlotte loves to go for walks and is great on a leash. She loves to snuggle. She is a total sweetheart who just wants someone to love her and pay attention to her.

Charlotte has done well with potty training during the day and will do her business outside if let out on a regular basis. She should be crated or penned up at night so there are no accidents. She comes when called and loves to follow her foster mom around the house. She quickly learned the layout of her foster home. This girl doesn't let her blindness stop her!

Charlotte was adopted on January 14, 2011. We do not know if listing her on this website helped find her new home or not, but we think it is GREAT that a family was willing to adopt an older blind Schnauzer and we wish them and Charlotte many happy years together. And special thanks to ResQpaws for helping this super cute little Schnauzer.

Teddy

Photo of Rescue Dog Teddy Photo of Rescue Dog Teddy

Teddy is a purebred male black & silver Miniature Schnauzer. Teddy was one of 5 puppies and 5 adults surrendered to us by a breeder who was no longer able to keep them. Teddy is about 1-1/2 years old.

Teddy is friendly and great with other dogs.

Teddy is in good health. He will be neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations when adopted—and we will have his teeth cleaned.

Hannah's von Trapp PUPPIES!!!

Photo of Hannah's puppies

We named Hannah's six puppies, 3 boys and 3 girls, after the von Trapp children in the Sound of Music. All are as cute and affectionate as puppies can be.

Mom is purebred Miniature Schnauzer Hannah, who turned out to be pregnant when we rescued her from the Devore shelter a day before she would have been euthanized. Hannah had a urinary tract infection when we adopted her. When we took her to the vet, he said she was pregnant and he advised against trying to spay her then.

The puppies were 11 weeks old as of December 8. Here are the five who have been adopted:

Photo of Puppy Luis Photo of Puppy Luis

Luis looks something like a miniature Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier.

Luis was adopted by a family in Glendale on December 20, 2011.

Photo of Puppy Gretl Photo of Puppy Gretl

Gretl—the smallest female puppy.

We think Gretl will probably look much like a small purebred Miniature Schnauzer when she matures.

Gretl was adopted on December 20, 2011 by a family from Temple City.

Photo of Puppy Marta Photo of Puppy Marta

Marta—one of the two black girls.

We think Marta will probably look much like a purebred black Miniature Schnauzer when she matures.

The Beatles Puppies—John, Paul, Ringo & George

The Beatles puppies, John, Paul, Ringo and George, are four purebred male Miniature Schnauzer puppies. They were surrendered to us in late December 2011 by a breeder who had lost her home, along with 5 adult Miniature Schnauzers and a 4 month old Miniature Schnauzer puppy named Roger. The Beatles puppies were about 8 weeks old as of January 1, 2012.

The Beatles puppies have exceptionally nice conformation. In fact, they are the prettiest puppies we have ever had in our rescue.

All 4 of the Beatles are in good health and have had their first puppy shots. All 4 are friendly and outgoing. Paul is still available for adoption.

John—a salt & pepper puppy, was adopted on January 8, 2012, by a family from La Crescenta, who also adopted Ringo.

Fritz is about 3 years old and very friendly. He weighs about 30 lbs.

Fritz is neutered and up to date on shots.

Fritz was adopted during the first week of January 2012 by a lady in the Sonora area who had been fostering him. We wish him a happy new year and many happy years in his new home.

Hannah

Photo of rescue dog Hannah

Hannah is a purebred black & silver female Miniature Schnauzer. We rescued Hannah from the Devore shelter a day before she would have been euthanized. We estimate that she is about 3-4 years old.

Hannah loves everybody. She loves to play with toys and with other dogs, and gets along well with cats. We have not had her around small children, so we do not know for sure how she would react to them.

Hannah is housebroken, spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.

Hannah was adopted on January 5, 2012 and will now be living with a retired couple in Alhambra.
