California Miniature
Schnauzer Rescue
—Rescued Dogs In New Homes 2013

California Miniature Schnauzer Rescue re-homed more than 160 Miniature Schnauzers and other dogs during 2013, an all time record for us. Below are some of the dogs we placed during 2013.

Rescue Schnauzer Susie

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Susie Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Susie Susie is a purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer. She will be 11 years old on December 3rd. Susie's current owner, who is 89 and losing her eyesight, fell recently. She is heartbroken but knows she is no longer able to care for Susie.

Susie is a very loyal and sweet dog and seems to attach herself well to whoever is taking care of her. What she wants for her birthday is a home filled with love and attention!

Like many Schnauzers, Susie will bark at people who come to the door. She has nipped a toddler grandchild who came too close to her too suddenly. The best home for Susie would be adults who want a companion. If you want an attentive, alert, healthy, and smart dog, Susie is for you.

Susie loves training treats and dog cookies and will do just about anything you ask if you have one in hand. She sleeps on her owner's bed now, but was originally trained to sleep in a kennel cage. She walks well on a harness and loves a long walk everyday. People who see Susie walking down the street cannot believe she is almost 11! She is perky but loves to nap and sleeps all night until her owner gets up. She is used to being groomed regularly and does not seem to mind. Rattle the car keys and she will go along for the ride anytime.

Susie is house trained, spayed, and current on all vaccinations. She takes a small dose of Prednisone every other day, and Atopica for panting.

Susie was adopted on December 31, 2013 by a retired lady from Sunnyvale who has owned Schnauzers before. What a great way for Susie to start the new year!

Rescue Dog Oprah

Photo of Rescue Dog Oprah Photo of Rescue Dog Oprah

Oprah is a very sweet black Miniature Schnauzer mix. She is about 2 to 3 years old. and weighs around 8 to 10 lbs.

We rescued her from the Orange County shelter, which made her rescue only because she was hiding in the back of her run there.

A day after we got her, Oprah was already starting to warm up to people and tolerating being patted. Our bet is that she will be a happy affectionate girl within two weeks. As scared as she was when we got her, she never tried to bite.

Oprah gets along well with other dogs.

Oprah appears to be in good health. She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.

Oprah was adopted on December 28, 2013, just in time to spend the new year in her new home. Thanks very much to New Beginnings for Animals for fostering Oprah and finding her a great new home.

Rescue Terrier Tommy

Photo of Rescue Terrier Tommy Photo of Rescue Terrierr Tommy

Tommy is a super friendly terrier mix who we rescued from the Lancaster shelter along with his pal (and likely his brother) Toby. The shelter estimated Tommy's age at 2 years, but he could be simply a more laid back dog of the same age as Toby. Tommy weighs 25 to 30 lbs.

Tommy loves people and gets along with other dogs. We have not had him around young children but he'd probably be fine with them.

Tommy appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations.

Tommy was adopted on December 27, 2013 by a retired couple from Pollack Pines where he will be the only dog.

Rescue Schnauzer Puppy Meghan

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Meghan Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Meghan

Meghan is a super cute Schnauzer puppy who was at death's door when we got her. She had been at the Orange County shelter for a week and had not eaten since she got there, when they called and asked if we could take her right away. We raced down there, and took her straight to the vet where she was on IV fluids for three days. It appears that Meghan was younger than the shelter believed and was not weaned when she arrived. She also had an ear infection which make her dizzy and a skin infection between her eyes.

When we finally got Meghan eating, the only thing she would eat was sweet potato baby food. We gradually got her eating other food and now she's eating regular dog food. She's over the skin infection and we are still working on the ear infection.

Meghan has uncropped ears and a docked tail. It appears that she was likely born during the first week of May 2013.

Meghan is a sweet puppy who loves to run around and play. She likes other dogs.

Meghan appears to be in good health, except that she has some retinal scarring, probably from malnutrition before we got her. She can see, but her vision above her head is somewhat impaired and she does not see things at a distance well. Meghan is spayed, microchipped and current on vaccinations.

Meghan and Colton were adopted together on December 22, 2013 by a family from San Clemente. We hope they all enjoy many happy years together.

Rescue Schnauzer Puppy Colton

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Puppy Colton Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Puppy Colton

Colton is a purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer puppy who comes to us from the Chula Vista Shelter. The shelter estimated Colton's age as 1 year, but he looks to us like he is probably 7 to 9 months old. Colton is a little guy, probably about 12 lbs.

Colton is a bit timid with strangers, but sit down beside him for about 90 seconds and he will be licking your face. He is a very affectionate little guy who wants to be held and loved. He gets along well with other dogs. We have not had him around children but we think he would be fine with children who are gentle and do not scare him.

Colton seems to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.

Meghan and Colton were adopted together on December 22, 2013 by a family from San Clemente. We hope they all enjoy many happy years together.

Rescue Schnauzer Maximus

Photo of Rescue Terrier Max Photo of Rescue Terrierr Max

Max is a very small, very young (between 1 and 2 years old) purebred Miniature Schnauzer. At the moment he is underweight, but when he achieves a “normal” weight for him, he will probably weigh 14-15 pounds. He has natural ears and a natural tail.

This energetic little guy would love a home where someone is around most of the time and/or a home with a canine companion to keep him company.

Maximus is very smart and learns things quickly. He is completely housebroken and will let you know when he needs to go out. He loves to play with his toys and enjoys trips to the dog park and 2-3 walks daily. He enjoys lap time and loves lots of attention.

Max will make the perfect companion for a couple or an individual who enjoy being active. We have not seen Max with children, but he should do well with older children who can treat him gently.

Max has been examined by a veterinarian and appears to be very healthy with perfect blood work. He is neutered and up to date on shots.

Max was adopted on December 18, 2013, where he joins two other Schnauzers. Max immediately loved his new adopters and his new canine brothers.

Randall and Rhoda were adopted together on December 15, 2013 by a family from Ojai. We could have place each of them separately a dozen times over since they are both very sweet dogs, but we waited until we found someone willing to adopt them together.

Rescue Schnauzer Rhoda

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Rhoda Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Rhoda

Rescue Poodle Lamby

Photo of Rescue Poodle Lamby Photo of Rescue Poodle Lamby

Lamby is a white Miniature Poodle. A friendl of the Nagels found Lamby running loose in the Lancaster area. After trying unsuccessfully to find Lamby's owner, the friend kindly took Lamby to her vet to have some foxtails surgically removed, and to spay and vaccinate Lamby. Then the friend brought her to the Nagels to help find Lamby a new home.

Lamby is a doll. She is named after the Shari Lewis puppet. Lamby loves everyone and gets along with other dogs. We have not had Lamby around children yet but she will likely be fine with children who are gentle.

Rescue Schnauzer Destiny

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Destiny Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Destiny

Destiny is a cancer survivor!

Destiny is a purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer. She is about 8 years old. We rescued Destiny from the Castaic shelter where all the workers and volunteers had fallen in love with her. They desperately networked her but most rescues were afraid to take her because she had a growth on her upper lip.

We did not know how things would turn out, but we decided this girl was too sweet to let her die without a fight. Three surgeries later, Destiny appears to be cancer free. She sacrificed her upper lip in the process, but none of her indominatable spirit. A HUGE thank you to Drs. Hohne and Hart who worked on Destiny at much less than usual rates. As she had at the shelter, Destiny won the hearts of every one at East Valley Veterinary Clinic. When we arrive with another dog, the first question is always "How is Destiny doing?" And Destiny loves to visit for checkups. As soon as she arrives, Destiny wants to greet everyone she sees, whether employees, customers, or their dogs.

Destiny does not seem ever to have met anyone or anything she does not like. She is housebroken and knows how to use a dog door. She loves to play with soft toys and loves to cuddle. She also loves giving kisses to anyone she knows. She will make a great pet for someone who does not mind that her teeth are visible on one side.

Destiny appears to be in good health. She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations, and her teeth are newly cleaned. She is housebroken and knows how to use a dog door.

Destiny was adopted on December 12, 2013 by a lawyer from Solvang who adopted Snowflake (now Abigail) from us a few months ago. Destiny fell in love with her adopter as soon as they met and also hit it off with Abigail.

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Puppy Mr. Mister

Jock is playful and happy just like his brothers and sisters. He weighs about 15 lbs, which is close to his final weight.

Jock loves people and enjoys playing with other dogs.

Jock has natural ears and an undocked tail, but we had his dewclaws removed so they wouldn't be a problem during grooming.. He has received his puppy vaccinations. (The photo on the left was taken in early October. The photo on the right was taken when Jock was younger and smaller.)

Simon loves to go on walks, runs, trips to the lake/river, basically anything outdoors. He is a very loving, sweet boy who just wants to be with his owner.

Rescue Puppy Harper

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Harper

On August 24, 2013, we received a call from Ric Browde of United Hope for Animals.

Ric said that there was a very pregnant Schnauzer mix at Baldwin Park and begged us to take her. Joyce Nagel and her family agreed, whelped Barbara's puppies on August 29, 2013 and cared for Barbara and her 6 puppies until they were almost weaned. We then transferred Barbara and the puppies to Marin Humane, which had a foster home for them and lots of adopters. They rode north in style on a private plane.

Harper is one of Barbara's puppies. Harper was adopted by a family from Encino, with two other Schnauzers. They first saw Barbara and her puppies on our website, and drove all the way to Novato to get Harper.

Rescue Schnauzer Kai

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Kai Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Kai

Kai was found wandering the streets of Oakland around August 10th, 2013. We think Kai is about 7–8 years young.

A group of kind animal lovers provided Kai with food, shelter and lots of love while trying to help him find his family. Unfortunately, the registered owner did not seem interested in recovering this most wonderful and sweet soul. Luckily, he found himself surrounded by people who immediately fell in love with his adorable nature.

Kai seems to have been raised as a perfect house pet in a loving and caring family. He adores the people in his life and is very sweet and trusting, once he get’s to know you. He can also be very protective of his people but is learning to relax when asked to do so. We is very good with the other schnauzer in his foster home and is learning to get along well with other dogs he encounters during his walks. He enjoys his walks very much, as he’s in great shape and also loves to run and have fun. He is also a great car rider and accepts his car harness with ease. He loves going shopping to the pet stores with his foster mom. Some young children seem to be a bit of a challenge for him. He’s gotten to know his foster neighbors and is now more relaxed around them, but he may not be a natural with young kids unless introduced properly.

Kai is missing most of his teeth, with only a few left on the left side of the mouth. Most of the missing teeth seem to have been professionally removed and his gums have also healed well since. He is able to eat small bite kibble and some veggies without any trouble.

Kai was just seen by a vet who found him very healthy and is also heartworm negative. He’s been brought up to date with shots and heartworm and flea prevention. He is neutered and microchipped.

Kai was adopted in mid-November 2013 by a family fromGrass Valley with two rescue dogs, some cats, and 3 acres of land for them to enjoy.

Rescue Schnauzer Linus

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Linus Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Linus

As can be seen in the photos, Linus has natural ears and an undocked tail.

Though we are unsure as to Linus' parentage, there is no mistaking his personality. Linus is a friendly dog who thinks everyone he meets, whether human or canine, is his best friend.

Charlie is a purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer who we rescued from the shelter in Castaic.  His vet says that Charlie is between 8-10, but probably closer to 8 and that he looks to be in good shape.

Charlie is a beautifully well behaved boy who is mostly deaf but still hears certain sounds.  His fosters are trying to teach him hand signals such as thumbs up for good.  Charlie does not like to be startled or have his head touched with both hands at the same time.  When startled, Charlie will growl and it may take him a minute to calm down.  However, Charlie has never even hinted that he would bite anyone—his growl is not nasty, just a gentle warning.  Charlie does not like to be picked up. The vet thinks he may have some arthritis.

Despite all of this, Charlie is a real love.  If you are looking for a dog who will just sit beside you quietly, then Charlie is your man.  He barks to let you know he wants to sit with you, but he is otherwise a very quiet guy.

Charlie loves to walk and we are working with him on how to greet other dogs while on leash.

Charlie appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.

Charlie was adopted on October 17, 2013 by a family from Fremont. Charlie will have their full attention as he will be the only dog in the family.

Rescue Dog Tango

Photo of Rescue Dog Tango

Tango is a little guy with a big presence and loving personality. We rescued Tango from the San Jose shelter on April 30, 2013. This petite schnauzer mix is 9-1/2 lbs. and approximately 1-1/2 years old.

We do not know anything about Tango's history, but we do know for sure that he’s friendly, playful, and as sweet as can be. He is a very light apricot color and has natural ears and tail. Someone shaved off his eyebrows and side whiskers, but he will look more schnauzer-like when those grow back.

See Tango's video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EH4Ps71mOsQ

Tango has been neutered, microchipped, and had all his shots. He appears to be quite healthy and loves to play with other dogs.

Tango was adopted on October 16, 2013 by a couple who adore him.

Rescue Standard Schnauzer Beth

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Beth Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Beth

We rescued Beth from the San Bernardino City shelter which has listed her as a Miniature Schnauzer. However, it was apparent, as soon as we saw her, that she is a Standard, not a Miniature. She weighed 31 lbs when we got her, but her proper weight is probably about 35 lbs.

Beth was limping when we got her, so we took her straight to the vet where we found out she has a broken pelvis. Fortnnately, the breaks are small and she should heal up with cage rest. We now have her on antibiotics to prevent infection and painkillers to make her more comfortable.

The shelter estimated Beth's age at 2 years, but we think she is probably more like 18 months old. Whatever her age, Beth is an unbelievably sweet dog. She never snapped at her rescuer or the vet even though she clearly was in pain.

Apart from her injuries, Beth appears to be in good health. She will be spayed and up to date on vaccinations before placement.

Beth was adopted on October 14, 2013 by a family from San Diego. Beth had quickly become one of our favorite dogs because she was always friendly and upbeat even when in pain. We wish her a long and happy life in her new home.

Rescue Dog Sandy

Photo of Rescue Dog Sandy Photo of RescueDog Sandy

They don't come any sweeter than Sandy. She is a 2 year old cream colored Schnauzer mix who we pulled from the LA County shelter in Lancaster.

Sandy loves everyone. Her tail is a perpetual motion machine! She wants to play with anyone and anything who will play with her. We have not had her around cats or small children but we think she'd love them as much as she does people and other dogs.

Sandy appears to be in good health. She is spayed, microchipped and current on vaccinations.

Sandy was adopted on October 14, 2013 and her new owners are "absolutely bonkers over her, " as is evident from her adoption photo. A BIG thank you to New Beginnings for Animals in Mission Viejo for finding Sandy a great new home.

Bonita appears to be in good health. She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.

Bonita was adopted on October 12, 2013 by a family who had been fostering Bonita since meeting her about a month ago at a meeting of the Hi-Desert Dog Obedience Club. As smart as she is, we expect Bonita will be a very well-trained dog!

Rescue Puppy Chewie

Photo of Rescue Puppy Gizmo Photo of Rescue Puppy Gizmo

Chewie is an outgoing, friendly male puppy who we rescued from the Lancaster shelter. He is about 1 year old and weighs about 25 lbs. The shelter called him a terrier mix, but we think he looks more like a Corgi mix.

Whatever Chewie's parentage may be, he is a happy, playful puppy who wants to play with anyone and anything who will play with him.

Chewie appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations.

Photo of Rescue Dog Debbie Photo of Rescue Dog Debbie

Rescue Schnauzer Puppy McCoy

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer McCoy Photo of Rescue Schnauzer McCoy

McCoy is a very cute and very sweet purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer puppy. McCoy came into the Long Beach shelter and was initially rescued by spcaLA. They called us and asked us to take McCoy because he was very scared in their shelter environment.

McCoy appears to be about 4 months old as of 8/28/2013. He is au naturel, with an undocked tail and uncropped ears.

McCoy is still on the timid side, but has made a lot of progress since we got him. McCoy is rooming with Debbie, who he adores, and she has made him much more outgoing than he was when we first got him. McCoy and Debbie enjoy playing with Meghan and Jock during the day.

McCoy appears to be in good health. He is microchipped and current on his DA2P and Bordatella vaccinations. Depending on how soon he is placed, he will either be neutered before placement or will be placed on a spay/neuter contract.

A family from Sonora with 3 sons adopted McCoy on October 5, 2013.

Rescue Schnauzer Colleen

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Colleen Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Colleen

Colleen is an energetically playful 2 year old. The shelter identified her as a Schnauzer/Poodle mix. However, we think she might have been bred and sold as a Schnauzer because she has a docked tail. (Although liver is not a color recognized in Schnauzers by the AKC, we do know that there are a few breeders who breed liver colored Schnauzers.)

Colleen came to us from the Chula Vista shelter who asked us to take her because they were very full and needed to have some dogs go to rescue.

Colleen loves people and other dogs. We have not had her around young children or cats yet, but she'd likely be fine with them too.

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Velvet Photo of RescueSchnauzer Velvet

Little Velvet Rose is a 5 year old female purebred Miniature Schnauzer. She is a gorgeous chocolate liver color. Velvet is very dainty weighing in at 11.5 lbs.

Velvet is precious! She is both an excitable girl and snuggle lap dog all wrapped up in one. She'd be content to sit in your lap all day long and be petted and she'd love to run around in the yard all day with other dogs and people. Velvet LOVES her food, but is not protective and has had little kid hands in her food bowl every day for years.

Velvet does get anxious and excited when people come to the door and yipes and barks for a few minutes until she gets used to her new guests. She is a little nervous and excitable around new people and environments, but she adjusts well. Velvet has lived in a loving home for 5 years with kids and other dogs.

Velvete is in good health, but needs a dental. She is potty trained and kennel trained... to sleep and rest in her kennel if the need be. She is spayed, current on shots and microchipped.

Rescue Dog Dorie

Photo of Rescue Dog Dorie Photo of Rescue Dog Dorie

Dorie, the Adorable (as she is often referred to) is a Miniature Schnauzer/ Shih Tzu mix who is about 3 years old. Dorie has a loving personality and bonds easily.

Dorie is not a barker. She is quiet during the day while her foster mom is at work. The only time she really barks is if someone is near the front door or if she is outside playing.

Dorie loves her daily walks and would really like to have access to a back yard. She would be very happy to have another dog in the household. She is very friendly with other dogs and with cats. She tries to enroll cats into playing with her and is perplexed when they decline and walk away from her:-)

Dorie loves to cuddle. She especially loves to tunnel under the covers and cuddle up next to her foster mom in bed. She will "talk" to let you know she wants to get in bed with you if she jumps down and needs to get back up.

Dorie does have a couple of quirks—nothing serious. She is easily frightened in unknown environments. A little reassurance and some confidence building works well with her. It is important to introduce her to new situations and new people, but let her go at her own pace. Be firm and encouraging, but not physically forceful.

Dorie can be snappy with people she does not know and trust. Dorie should be muzzled when being treated by the vet and when being groomed professionally.  She is fine with grooming and any other kind of handling at home. In fact, it is easy to clean her teeth, give her meds or take something out of her mouth. (Once she knows her groomer and vet, the muzzle will probably not be necessary.)

Dorie loves to give kisses—lots and lots of kisses. She is so happy to have a secure home, regular exercise, regular meals and loving attention. Is Dorie the best friend you've been looking for?

Dorie appears to be in good health. She is microchipped, spayed and current on vaccinations.

Dorie was adopted by an MD in Sacramento on August 24, and her foster misses Dorie very much. She is quite a character and has made huge progress. She is still afraid of garbage trucks, but not much else these days. We hope Dorie will have a very long and very happy life.

Kirstie's puppies were happy and active, eagerly wagging their little tails whenever they see anyone approaching.

Gracie was a favorite at the shelter and several employees and volunteers ran out to say goodbye when we left with her. Gracie is about 7 months old and weighs about 30 lbs.

Castaic is a friendly shelter and they let us walk Gracie through their cat room. Gracie just looked in the cages quietly and wagged her tail at the cats. She seemed equally friendly and relaxed around other dogs.

Gracie limps a little, apparently from a now-healed injury to her left front leg. Other than that, Gracie appears to be in good health. She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.

Gracie was adopted on August 17, 2013. A BIG thank you to Northern California Family Dog Rescue in San Francisco for finding Gracie a new home.

Oz is very sweet. He gets along with other dogs and even leaves the cat at his foster home alone. Oz is almost completely house trained and sleeps in his crate overnight. He is learning to walk on a lead.

Oz is up to date on vaccinations. His adopter will have to post a deposit which will be refunded after Oz is neutered.

Rescue Cairn Mix Bonnie

Photo of Rescue Dog Bonnie Photo of Rescue Dog Bonnie

Bonnie is really sweet. She appears to be a Miniature Schnauzer / Cairn mix. The shelter estimated her age at 5, but she looks a little younger. Bonnie weighs about 12 lbs.

California Miniature Schnauzer Rescue rescued Bonnie on February 24, 2013 from the Baldwin Park shelter where she had been taken after she was hit by a car. Bonnie had suffered some breaks in her pelvis, but fortunately the breaks were small enough that she did not need surgery. Their vet said that Bonnie would be good as new with about a month's cage rest.

CMSR thought Bonnie would be ready to go to a new home about April 1, 2013 but, surprise, surprise, about a month after they rescued her, it became apparent that Bonnie was pregnant. On April 12, 2013, Bonnie gave birth to 6 puppies by Cæsarian section. She was spayed at the same time while she was under the anesthesia. She was a good mom and took great care of her puppies.

Bonnie is friendly and gets along well with other dogs. However, Bonnie is a skilled climber and a master at climbing a chain link fence. Hence she will need a home with a fence that she cannot climb.

Bonnie appears to be in good health. She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.

Rescue Schnauzer Mix Scottie (formerly Oswald)

Photo of Rescue Dog Oswald Photo of Rescue Poodle Layne

Oswald is a super cute 1 year old Schnauzer mix puppy who weighs about 10–12 lbs. Oswald was only hours away from being euthanized when he was rescued. He had the bad luck to arrive at the shelter right after July 4 when they were super crowded and Oswald was deemed not adoptable because he was scared and hiding in the back of his cage.

Oswald is quickly regained his self-confidence once he left the shelter. He was a good boy while he was being groomed and did not try to snap even while being blow dried.

Oswald gets along with other dogs and seems to like cats. We have not had him around young children yet. He would probably do best iin a quiet home where is is given a lot of love.

Oswald appears to be in good health. He is microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. He will be neutered before placement.

Trix has a non-contagious skin condition for which she is being successfully treated. She is currently clippered close to help her skin heal. She will have a beautiful lush, thick coat after it grows back. It would probably be best to feed Trix a limited ingredient grain-free diet (such as Natural Balance) to avoid future skin problems.

Rescue Schnauzer Sebastian

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Sebastian Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Sebastian

Sebastian (Sebbie) is a 10-year old purebred male salt and pepper Miniature Schnauzer. He weighs about 15 lb and is about 12" tall. Sebbie's former owner surrendered him because she is no longer able to care for him.

Sebbie can be a bit anxious at first when meeting new humans or dogs, but quickly warms up. His former owner says he has never shown aggression to animals or humans.

Sebbie will happily sit and cuddle by your side for hours on end and loves to kiss his human. He loves walking around the house but won't touch anything that's not given to him. He loves toys! He gets along well with the other dog in his foster home, even though he was a solo dog most of his life. However, he definitely likes to chase cats,

Sebbie is fully housebroken. He knows a few commands and walks very nicely on-leash. He will probably be best placed with a somewhat quiet family with older kids (10 years or older).

Sebbie was seen by a vet yesterday and he did great .We brought him up to date in shots and are awaiting results on a heart worm test and full blood and urine analyses. His teeth could use a light cleaning, but nothing terribly urgent, the vet said.

Sebbie was adopted in mid-June 2013 by a family in Woodland, CA.

Photo of Rescue Puppy Buster Photo of Rescue Puppy Buster

Kathy gets along well with other dogs, but is a gentle soul and prefers canine playmates who do not overwhelm her.

Kathy appears to be in good health. She is spayed and current on vaccinations.

Kathy was adopted on June 12, 2013 by a wonderful lady from Tracy who has been waiting two months to get Kathy. Kathy will finally get to be the center of attention, which she greatly deserves after raising six energetic pups. We wanted to share this video of Kathy getting one last romp with her kids. Rescue Puppy Junebug

Photo of Kirstie's female puppy Junebug

A busy shelter is not a good place for a nursing mom and her puppies, so we arranged to rescue Kirstie and her kids (3 boys and 1 girl) on April 2, 2013 as soon as we heard about them.

After the puppies were weaned, we asked our good friends at New Beginnings for Animals ot help us place the puppies, since we had 2 more litters of rescue puppies, and a third about to arrive. New Beginnings for Animals kindly agreed to help.

Junebug went to her new home in early June 2013. Thanks very much to New Beginnings for Animals and Lorie Armbruster for finding Junebug a great new home.

Rescue Schnauzer Opie

Photo of Rescue Dog Opie

Opie is a purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer who we rescued from the Orange County shelter. The shelter guesstimated his age at 12. We think he is more likely about 10 years old. (We think the shelter aged him at 12 because his teeth were covered with tartar. In any event, we had a full dental done, and his teeth look a lot better now.)

Opie has a lot of energy even for a younger dog. Opie loves people and gets along well with other dogs and seems to be okay with cats. We have not had him around young children yet.

Opie is neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations.

Opie was adopted on May 25, 2013 by a family from San Diego. Many thanks to New Beginnings for Animals for fostering Opie for us and for finding him a great new home.

Rescue Schnauzer Benny

Photo of Rescue Dog Benny Photo of Rescue Dog Benny

Benny is an 8 year old purebred male Miniature Schnauzer  We rescued him from the Sacramento shelter where he had been turned in as a stray and was about to be euthanized.

Benny is the sweetest of boys and gets along with other dogs and even cats.  He is an easy keeper and just wants a lap to lay his head on.

Benny unfortunately had been foraging for food for a while and had extensive dental problems which our rescue has taken care of.

Benny's foster family has fallen in love with him and say he has never had a single accident in the house.   Benny is neutered, microchipped and up to date on all vaccinations.

Benny was adopted by his fosters just in time for the Memorial Day weekend 2013.

Rescue Schnauzer Shasta

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Shasta Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Shasta

Shasta is a purebred Miniature Schnauzer who we rescued from the Madera shelter. She is about 8 years old.

Shasta is a VERY sweet dog. She loves people, and gets along with other dogs and with cats. We think she would be fine with children. Shasta would be best in a home with someone who is home most of the time because she enjoys being with her owner.

Shasta was matted so bad that the groomer had to cut off most of her hair. She will look even more gorgeous once her beard and leg hair grow back. She also needs some good food to put a bit of weight on her and that's happening now.

Shasta appears to be in good health, but has some fatty tumors (lipomas), which is common in older Schnauzers. (The vets generally recommend against removing lipomas unless they are causing problems (e.g., if in the armpit).)  Shasta is housebroken, spayed and will be up to date on vaccinations before placement.

Shasta was adopted by a family from Madera on May 19, 2013.

Roxy loves everyone and gets along well with other dogs. Her favorite spot is on someone's lap. Roxy is okay with cats. We have not had her around young children, but she'd probably be okay with them.

Roxy appears to be in good health. She is housebroken, spayed and current on vaccinations.

Roxy was adopted on May 13, 2013. Thanks so much to New Beginnings for Animals in Mission Viejo for finding Roxy a great new home.

Rescue Schnauzer Kirstie

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Kirstie Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Kirstie

We rescued Kirstie, along with her four 8-week old puppies, from the Bakersfield shelter. Kirstie is on the small end of the size range for a female Miniature Schnauzer. Her normal weight is probably around 12 to 13 lbs. The shelter estimated Kirstie's age as 4. We think she is probably a little younger, perhaps 3.

Needless to say, a girl does not look her best coming straight from a shelter and when she is busy nursing to boot. Kirstie looks much prettier after a bath and some grooming.

Kirstie is both a very sweet dog and a great mom. It is amazing how friendly she was on arrival, despite having being taken to a shelter and then moved to a rescue, all while she is trying to care for her puppies. Kirstie greets everyone and proudly shows off her kids.

Kirstie appears to be in good health.

Kirstie was adopted on May 8, 2013 by a family from San Diego where she joins an 8 year old male Miniature Schnauzer.

Rescue Schnauzer Lenny

Photo of Rescue Dog Lenny Photo of Rescue Dog Lenny

Lenny is a super cute little guy. He has a Schnauzer head, but his body is longer and lower than a Schnauzer. He could be a Schnauzer / Dachshund mix. Lenny is about 2 years old. We rescued him from the Lancaster shelter.

Lenny is very friendly and gets along well with other dogs. We have not yet had Lenny around young children or cats, but we suspect he would be okay with them.

Lenny appears to be in good health. He is microchipped and current on vaccinations. He will be neutered before placement.

Lenny was adopted on May 3, 2013 by a family from Sonora.

Rescue Schnauzer Chatsworth

Photo of Rescue Dog Opie Photo of Rescue Dog Opie

Chatsworth is a purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer who we rescued from the Los Angeles West Valley shelter in Chatsworth. The shelter thought he is about 11 years old, but he looks more like 8 years old to us.

Chatsworth is in good shape for his age. He appears to be in good health. He's friendly and gets along with other dogs.

Chatsworth is neutered, microchipped, and current on vaccinations

Chatsworth was adopted on April 27, 2013. A big thank you to Lorie Armbruster and New Beginnings for Animals in Mission Viejo for finding Chatsworth his new home.

Rescue Schnauzer Clancy

Photo of Rescue Dog Clancy Photo of Rescue Dog Clancy

Clancy came to us from the Ventura County shelter in Camarillo. He had a cherry eye (inflamed inner eyelid) which a volunteer vet at the shelter kindly fixed. It took about a month to heal but Clancy is now fine.

We believe Clancy is a purebred Schnauzer, but he is a tiny guy, proving that good things come in small packages. He weighs only about 10 lbs. He appears to be about 4 years old.

Clancy loves everyone and gets along well with other dogs.

Clancy is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.

Clancy was adopted on April 14, 2013 by a retired lady in Sonora who also has a cat. His adopter is a long time volunteer at the local no-kill Humane Society. She saw Clancy less than 24 hours after he arrived in Sonora and decided he was exactly the dog for whom she had been looking.

Rescue Schnauzer Snowflake

Photo of Rescue Dog Snowflake Photo of Rescue Dog Snowflake

Snowflake is a very cute female white Miniature Schnauzer, who we rescued from the Baldwin Park shelter. Snowflake is small, probably about 12 to 13 lbs. She appears to be about 8 years old.

There is no confusion about Snowflake's sparkling personality. She is a doll! Snowflake is friendly and just wants to be loved. She gets along well with other dogs.

Snowflake appears to be in good health. She is spayed, microchipped and newly vaccinated.

Snowflake was adopted on April 14, 2013 by a lady from Solvang. Snowflake joins Jem, a Miniature Schnauzer, Finn, a Cairn Terrier, and Spazzy a tuxedo cat.

Rescue Schnauzer Puppy Jack Miller

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Puppy Jack Miller

Jack Miller is a striking purebred male Miniature Schnauzer puppy. He is a dark salt & pepper. In spite of his mature appearance, Jack is only 4 months old. Our thanks to master groomer Judy Sousa for making Jack look like the beautiful boy he is.

Jack's owner is surrendering him because she did not reckon with his energy level. She lives in an upstairs apartment and is concerned about being able to give Jack the stimulating environment she feels he deserves for proper development.

Jack is affectionate and friendly with everyone he meets. He is smart. He knows his sit command, and he is about 80% housetrained. He is not a barker—his owner has had no complaints from neighbors when she has had to leave him alone. Jack is crate-trained and his owner walks him 5 times a day.

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Puppy Jack Miller

Jack is so young that he still has his baby teeth, and his permanent teeth will probably come in soon. Because he is teething he is a bit “mouthy” (but not a biter). We feel he would be best suited to a home with older children or adults, not infants and toddlers. He is an exceptionally fine schnauzer who needs adopters with plenty of time to spend on his socialization, training, and exercise.

Jack is current on his puppy shots but is not yet neutered.

Jack was adopted on April 12, 2013 by a family in San Jose where he will be the only dog and have lots of attention.

Rescue Dog Karen

Photo of Rescue Dog Karen

Karen came from the Bakersfield shelter. Karen is about 2 year old. She looks like she is part Schnauzer, part Lhasa. She is a compact little girl, weighing about 10 lbs.

Karen loves everyone and gets along well with other dogs. Shw will make someone a great companion!

Karen is microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. She will be spayed before placement.

Karen was adopted by a family in the San Diego area on April 5, 2013. Thanks to Judy Spady and Holly's Garden Rescue for finding Karen a great new home.

Rescue Shih Tzu Jodi

Photo of Rescue Dog Jodi

Jodi is a very sweet Shih Tzu mix. She appears to be about 5 to 6 years old, and weighs about 8 lbs. We rescued Jodi from the shelter in Lancaster.

Jodi is looking for a great new home where she can provide lots of love to her new family. She loves both people and other dogs.

Jodi appears to be in good health. She is spayed, microchipped and current on vaccinations.

New Beginnings for Animals in Mission Viejo kindly found an adopter for Jodi on April 3, 2013. Jodi now lives in Long Beach with her new mom Kip -- and a Labrador Retriever “big brother” who's her new best friend! A big thank you to New Beginnings and Lorie Armbruster!

Rescue Schnauzer Yoli

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Yoli

We rescued Yoli from the Woodland shelter. She had been found abandoned in an apartment. She was badly overgrown and matted. The shelter shaved her down, but she did not look much like a Schnauzer then. Her hair is starting to grow back and Yoli is once again starting to look like the gorgeous Schnauzer she is.

Yoli appears to be about 7 years old.

Yoli was very frightened when we got her—you could not even pet her, especially her head. With patience a lot of love, kindness, and attention, we have taught Yoli to trust again. Now she is a regular little lap dog and fallows you wherever you go, so cute. She truly is a gem, and if anyone deserves a loving home to be cared for and spoiled for the rest of her days it is Yoli!

Yoli is good with cats, and other dogs, better with older children.

Yoli is appears to be very healthy. She has been spayed and is current on vaccinations.

Yoli was adopted by a retired lady in Salinas on March 30, 2013.

Rescue Poodle Tinkerbell

Photo of Rescue Dog Tinkerbell Photo of Rescue Dog Tinkerbell

Tinkerbell is a cute friendly Poodle. We think she is about 6 years old. She will be even cuter than she looks in this shelter photo once master groomer Joyce has a chance to apply clippers and scissors. Tinkerbell weighs about 12 lbs.

We agreed to pull Tinkerbell from the Lancaster shelter, along with 5 other dogs, for an out of town rescue group. However, the shelter messed up and did not discover that Tinkerbell had a microchip until we went to pick her up. As a result, she had to stay for another 2 weeks to give her owner time to come get her. By that time, the out of town rescue group had come and taken their other 5 dogs who we had pulled for them. But we could not leave Tinkerbell there to die at the shelter, so we pulled her when her owner did not show up.

Tinkerbell is very sweet and gets along well with other dogs. All she wants is a good home where she will be loved and can give plenty of love in return.

Tinkerbell appears to be in good health. She is spayed, microchipped and current on vaccinations.

Tinkerbell was adopted on March 30, 2013. A big thank you to New Beginnings for Animals in Mission Viejo for finding Timkerbell's adopter. Tinkerbell will go every day with her new mom, who works at an eldercare facility, to keep seniors company and then she will go home with mom at night. She will be very loved and spoiled.

Rescue Schnauzer Axel

Photo of Rescue Dog Benny Photo of Rescue Dog Benny

Axel was found unconscious on the road and brought to a Bay area shelter, where he was about to be euthanized when a kind foster spotted him and took him home. Axel is about 8 years old and weighs about 19 lbs., about average for a male Miniature Schnauzer. He has cropped ears and a docked tail.

Axel has a very happy and loving personality. Axel is active, sweet, and alert, but is not a barker. He loves to eat, knows how to “sit”, and has shown no signs of aggression even with his food. Axel is crate trained, and walks well on a leash, but probably will benefit from obedience training since he doesn't seem to have been exposed to much in life.

Axel gets along with the old female dog at his foster home, but does not like other male dogs. He does chase one of the feral cats who lives outside his foster home, but as a game, not to hurt it. We do not know how Axel is around children but he welcomes adults into the home with happiness and tail wagging!

Axel is housebroken, neutered, and up to date on vaccinations. His teeth were infected and in bad shape when he was found, but Axel has had a complete dental and his teeth are good now.

Axel was adopted in mid-March  2013 by a family from Vacaville, where he joins a female Papillon.

Rescue Schnauzer Puppy Posey

Photo of Rescue Dog Posey Photo of Rescue Dog Posey

Posey is the cutest salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer puppy you ever saw, with a sparkling personality to match!. Posey was born on January 7, 2013, making her 9 weeks old as of March 11, 2013.

Posey loves everyone, wants to play, and loves to lick faces.

Posey appears to be in good health. She has had her first puppy shot.

Posey was adopted by a couple from La Cañada on March 28, 2013, where she joins two other dogs and two cats. She does not lack for playmates!

Rescue Schnauzer Mignon

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Mignon

Mignon is a youngster (about 12-15 months old). He is one of the most beautiful schnauzers you will ever see. From his excellent conformation to his gorgeous coloring, he is quite the looker. Mignon is very active and would love to belong to someone who loves taking walks and trips to the dog park. Of course a nice back yard would also be great. He loves to play with his toys for hours on end and walks around the house with a soft squeaky toy in his mouth making it squeak over and over again. H likes to share his toys with you and enjoys “fetch.”

He is athletic enough to do agility and other active events. Mignon gets along very well with other dogs and seems interested in cat in a friendly way. He would be especially happy to have another dog as his companion in his new home. His foster mom has been working with him on his basic commands and strongly recommends taking Mignon to a basic obedience class. He is quite a loving puppy and likes to cuddle once he trusts you. He is more trusting wit women and shows anxiety around men. He expresses his fear by barking. Mignon also barks in the house, especially when left alone. A companion dog would very likely eliminate this. He is learning to obey the No Bark command and has come a long way.

Mignon has not been around children very much but he would probably be good with children who are old enough to be respectful and would certainly enjoy playing.

Mignon has been neutered and microchipped and will be current on all shots prior to adoption.

Mignon was adopted by a family in the Santa Cruz area on March 27, 2013. He joins a 13 year old male Schnauzer.

Rescue Schnauzer Eddie

Photo of Rescue Dog Eddie Photo of Rescue Dog Eddie

Eddie is a super nice male salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer, who is about 7 years old. We rescued Eddie from the Ventura County shelter. Eddie weighs about 19 lbs. and will weigh about 17 lbs. when he sheds a couple more lbs.

Eddie is a friendly guy. He loves everyone. He likes other dogs and is okay with cats. We have not had him around children but we think he would probably be good with gentle children.

Eddie appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations.

Eddie was adopted on March 19, 2013, by a retired man from Mission Viejo. Thanks very much to Miniature Schnauzer Club of Southern California rescue, Carol Hansen, and Joe McCann for fostering Eddie for a while and finding Eddie a new home.

Rescue Dog Pixie

Photo of Rescue Dog Pixie Photo of Rescue Dog Pixie

Pixie was about 4 months old as of New Years Day 2013. Her mother is Roxie, who was pregnant when surrendered to us. Mom looks like an Affenpinscher mix. We have no idea what Dad looks like, but the genes have come together to produce a really beautiful little puppy.

Pixie is smart, inquisitive, friendly, and a joy to be around. And did we mention that she is cute, cute, cute? Pixie loves to have someone play with her, whether that someone is human or canine. Take a look at Pixie starring in her very own video: https://vimeo.com/56817269.

Pixie appears to be in good health. She will be current on her puppy shots when placed, and the adopter will have to agree to spay Pixie when she is old enough.

Rescue Schnauzer Hans

Photo of Rescue Dog Hans Photo of Rescue Dog Hans

Hans is a 7 year old purebred Miniature Schnauzer. Due to life circumstances, his family needs to find a new home for Hans.

Hans has lived his whole live with one loving and attentive family. He has been raised with children and is good with them. He is used to living in a one dog family but has socialized well with other dogs, though he tends to be a little “alpha.” He does not do well with cats, because he feels anything small and quick needs to be chased.

Hans loves to snuggle and is very loving. He just wants to be with his family but does well when left alone and does not have separation anxiety. He will make a wonderful addition for an owner looking for a loyal and loving companion. He is housebroken and does not chew or destroy anything.

Hans appears to be in good health. He is neutered and current on vaccinations.

Hans was adopted by a family in San Leandro on March 10, 2013.

Rescue Schnauzer Larry the Schnauzer Guy

Photo of Rescue Dog Larry the Schnauzer Guy

Larry the Schnauzer Guy is a 7 year old Miniature Schnauzer who we rescued from the Lancaster shelter. The shelter had named him Lucky but he didn't have much luck at the shelter. They didn't read his microchip correctly. As a result, he had to stay another 10 days after they checked his chip again when we first came to rescue him.

Larry's luck changed for the better quickly after we finally managed to get him out of the shelter. He was adopted less than 24 hours later.

Larry appears to be in good health. He is microchipped and current on vaccinations.

Larry was adopted on March 8, 2013 by a family from Bishop where he joins Jake, a 16 year old Miniature Schnauzer.

Photo of Rescue Dog Jesse Photo of Rescue Dog Jesse

Jesse looks like she could be a Schnauzer / Chihuahua mix. Whatever he parentage, she is a super sweet dog. We rescued Jesse from the Bakersfield shelter. She is about 3 years old and weighs about 7 or 8 lbs.

Spend 5 minutes with Jesse, and she will win your heart! She is happy, friendly, and loves everyone. She gets along with other dogs too. We have not had her around cats, but we suspect she will like them too.

Jesse appears to be in good health. She is spayed, microchipped and current on her vaccinations.

Scrappy appears to be in good health. He is neutered and current on vaccinations.

As cute as he looks in his photo, Kermit will look more handsome when he is bathed and combed out. In the second photo, just as we were taking the photo, Kermit turned and gave Darcel a big wet kiss, demonstrating what an affectionate fellow he is. And Kermit likes other dogs too.

Rescue Schnauzer Tessa

Photo of Rescue Dog Tessa

Tessa is a purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer. She has beautiful, exotic dark eyes and is regally slender and attractive with silver streaks in her dark gray coat. We rescued Tessa from the San Jose shelter. She is 2-1/2 years old, and weighs just under 14 lbs, and has a good appetite.

Tessa is a super smart girl who is good with dogs of other breeds and sizes. We haven’t had a chance to evaluate her with cats, but she shows a strong interest in chasing squirrels in the back yard. She walks well on a leash.

Tessa is a sensitive girl who needs gentle loving care and reliable human presence. It would be best for her to go to a home with no more than one other dog so she can have the attention she needs and bond quickly with her owners. Tessa wants to be near her humans, and sleeps quietly on the bed (or in a dog bed) at night.

Tessa is quite the escape artist. She will need not only a secure yard with 6-foot fences, but a yard with minimal spaces beneath fences and gates.

Tessa is reliably housebroken, spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and is microchipped. She did not need a dental cleaning because she is so young.

Tessa was adopted by a family from Danville on February 6, 2013.
