Schnauzer Rescue
—Rescued Dogs In New Homes 2025

California Miniature Schnauzer Rescue re-homed about 16 Miniature Schnauzers and other dogs during 2024.

In addition, CMSR helped pull, transport and/or vet many dogs for out of town rescues. Most of these were dogs who were about to be euthanized if the out of town rescues had not agreed to take them. CMSR also helped fund the expenses for some Schnauzers and other dogs who were rescued by other rescues, whose expenses the rescues could not have afforded without CMSR's help.

We thank our volunteers, our fosters, our donors, and our partner rescue groups. Without their wonderful help, many of those dogs would have died instead of enjoying their lives in great new homes.

Rescue Miniature Schnauzer Puppy Luke

Luke was one of the puppies from our Dukes of Hazzard litter. He was surrendered to us with 3 other littermates—all now adopted—when their breeder was unable to sell them and could no longer keep them. (There were 7 in the litter, but only the 4 unsold puppies were surrendered to us.) All four were super cute and super friendly.

Luke was born around May 18, 2025. He is a salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer puppy who weighed about 10 lbs as of mid-September.

Luke is in good health. He is up to date on vaccinations.

Thanks to our friends the Nagels at Smith Kennels in Palmdale for looking after and finding new homes for Luke and his fellow puppies.

Rescue Miniature Schnauzer Esther

Photo of Rescue Miniature Schnauzer Estehr Photo of Rescue Miniature Schnauzer Esther

Esther is an about 4 year old salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer who weighs about 23 lbs.

Esther was surrendered to us because her owner's toddler was grabbing at Esther and the owner decided it would be easier to surrender Esther than to train her toddler not to grab Esther.

Esther is a sweet dog, but hasn't been well socialized. She is nervous around strangers and takes a bit of time to warm up to them. She needs some lead training because she pulls hard on the leash. However, Esther is housebroken and will be a GREAT dog with a some patience and training.

Esther is in good health. She is spayed, and up to date on vaccinations. Esther will come with food, toys, and other supplies. We will try to have her microchipped before placement.

Esther was adopted on November 2, 2025. Thanks very much to Joyce Nagel and Darcel Foltin of Smith Kennels for finding Esther a great new home.

Rescue Terrier Jacinda

Photo of Rescue Miniature Terrier Jacinda Photo of Rescue Miniature Terrier Jacinda

Jacinda is a super sweet 30 lb cream-colored terrier mix. The shelter estimated her age at 1.5 years old, which is probably about right. Her teeth are nice and white.

We rescued Jacinda from the Riverside San Jacinto shelter where she had been lying for 3 weeks with a badly fractured femur and two fractures to her pelvis. We were full, but Jacinda was running out of time and we couldn’t let her be euthanized after lying in pain for so long. We picked Jacinda up and drove her straight to surgery at ASEC in West L.A. She is now healed up and ready for a new home.

Jacinda is one of the sweetest, happiest gals you’ll meet. She is very much a people person and loves us humans. She loves to cuddle. Jacinda’s foster calls Jacinda her huggable bear. Jacinda is always on her foster’s lap angling to snuggle and Jacinda is just the right size to wrap your arms around.

Jacinda likes to play with toys - she has a Benebone that she likes to chew on and a rubber stick that she carries around. She’ll also chase the ball in her foster’s yard. She is great on car rides. Jacinda has gone on a couple of multi-hour car rides and she sat quietly in the back without complaining.

Jacinda is potty-trained and crate trained which is a nice bonus. Overall, she has a young, happy spirit and brings a lot of life to her home.

Jacinda appears to be in good health and had a thorough checkup, with blood work, before surgery. She is spayed, microchipped, and current on vaccinations.

Jacinda was adopted in mid-August 2025. Thanks to our friends at Wiggly Tails Dog Rescue in Eugene, Oregon for finding Jacinda a great new home and to our friends at Animal Rescue of Fresno for introducing us to Wiggly Tails.

Rescue Miniature Schnauzer Mix Puppy Donna

Photo of Rescue Miniature Schnauzer mix puppy Donna Photo of Rescue Miniature Schnauzer mix puppy Donna

Donna is an about 7 month old black and tan, female Miniature Schnauzer mix puppy. Donna weighs about 15 lbs. We rescued Donna from the San Bernardino County shelter in Devore, where she and her mother, a purebred Miniature Schnauzer named Dolly, had been exposed to parvovirus. The shelter gave Donna's mother to someone else while we were driving to the shelter, so we rescued just Donna. Fortunately, Donna did not contract parvovirus.

Donna is exuberantly friendly. She loves people and other dogs. However, she is somewhat mouthy something we expect she will grow out of. She loves to grab fingers and pull though she never bites down hard enough to hurt. She enjoys playing with the other dogs at her foster home.

Being a puppy, Donna needs some work on potty training and in walking on a lead. Right now, she loves to get right in front of someone and sit or lie down, making it imperative to look where one is going when Donna is around.

Donna appears to be in good health. She is spayed, microchipped, and current on vaccinations.

Donna was adopted on September 1, 2025. The first applicant for Donna was the family who had adopted Dolly. The happy news is that Donna and Dolly have been reunited. The father in the family is an endodontist, so Donna and Dolly should have excellent dental care.

Rescue Miniature Schnauzer Nigel

Nigel is an about 7 year old salt & pepper, male Miniature Schnauzer. He is on the smaller side, weighing in at about 12 lbs. We rescued Nigel from the Los Angeles North Central shelter. He had a broken pelvis when we got him but it has now healed. The shelter estimated Nigel's age at 2, but our vet thinks he is more like 6 years old.

Nigel is a bit on the timid side but loves people once he gets to know them. He gets along with other dogs, but wants to get to know them before he will play with them. He is quiet most of the time.

Nigel appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped, and current on vaccinations.

Nigel was adopted on May 3, 2025 by a retired lady from Roseville, whose Schnauzer mix had passed away after many years.

Rescue Miniature Schnauzer Sophie

Photo of Rescue Miniature Schnauzer Sophie Photo of Rescue Miniature Schnauzer Sophie

Sophie is an about 1 year old dark salt & pepper, female Miniature Schnauzer. She weighs about 15 lbs.

We rescued Sophie from the Chula Vista shelter. Normally, shelters do not give us young, healthy Schnauzers as they are readily adoptable. We got Sophie because, while very sweet, she was terrified of people at the shelter.

We expected Sophie to come around quickly once we took her home. She did not. She never growled or snapped, but would run away if she could. Then, a month after we got Sophie, a miracle occurred. Sheldon arrived from the San Jacinto shelter. Sheldon loves everyone, and Sophie adored Sheldon. Sophie was scared to use the dog door. Sheldon —quickly taught her how to use it. Sheldon thought people made great friends. He taught Sophie that too. Sophie is now a happy, more outgoing dog

Sophie appears to be in good health. She is spayed, microchipped, and current on vaccinations.

Sophie was adopted on April 10, 2025 by a retired lady in Glendale who has a senior German Shepherd named Blaze. Sophie and Blaze are becoming friends, though sometimes Sophie is too energetic for Blaze.

Rescue Schnauzer Mix Snickers

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Mix Snickers Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Mix Snickers

Snickers came to our rescue from the Riverside County - San Jacinto shelter in southern California.

Snickers was a spayed 14 lb, 3- to 4-year-old Miniature Schnauzer mix who was brought in as a stray on March 13, 2025. Snickers had been exposed to Parvovirus at the shelter on March 21 and was listed as “at risk”. While in foster care, Snickers became fully vaccinated and tested negative for Parvovirus.

Snickers was a mix of perhaps Dachshund or another short-legged breed as she was a “low rider” little girl, with a long and very flexible tail that curled over her long back.

Snickers was easy to bathe and groom and had a calm disposition. She slept quietly all night in her crate or doggie bed and seemed to be housebroken. She was more comfortable with women than men, however warmed up to each person given a little time. She walked well on a leash and seemed very interested in everything in her new world.

Snickers loved playing with her squeaky toys by herself or was happy to play fetch, easily giving up the toy. Snickers enjoyed laying in the sun. She was always very quiet when people appeared close to the house on the street, and she never barked at cars or delivery trucks driving past.

Snickers was adopted on April 18, 2025 by a woman named Julie who lives in Pittsburg, California.

Rescue Chihuahua Nora

Photo of Rescue Chihuahua Nora Photo of Rescue Chihuahua Nora

Nora is an ultra cute black and tan Chihuahua. We joke that Nora's mother was a German Shepherd and that her father was the world's bravest Chihuahua.

We rescued Nora from the San Bernardino City shelter, which was threatening to euthanize Nora if she wasn't rescued because she had a fractured iliac, which needed plating. Nora also had damage to her hip joint which required a femoral head osteotomy (FHO). Nora is now able to run around and play. She still limps a little but her surgeon thinks that the limp will disappear as Nora strengthens her hind leg muscles.

Nora is about 2 years old. She weighs about 7 lbs.

Nora is a bit hesitant around strangers, but affectionate once she gets to know someone. She enjoys playing with other dogs so long as they are not rough with her. Given Nora's small size, we will not place Nora in a home with children too young to understand that they need to be gentle with her.

Nora appears to be in good health. She is spayed, microchipped, and current on vaccinations. Nora still limps a little, but that should improve as her muscle strength improves.

Nora was adopted in February 2025. Thanks very much to our friends at 4 Paws Kiddo Rescue for fostering Nora and finding her a great new home.

Rescue Miniature Schnauzer Marty

Photo of Rescue Miniature Schnauzer Marty Photo of Rescue Miniature Schnauzer Marty

Marty is a very sweet about 10 year old salt & pepper, male Miniature Schnauzer. He is a big boy, weighing in at about 24 lbs. We rescued Marty from the Los Angeles City East Valley shelter in Van Nuys.

Marty is a quiet little guy who loves people and other dogs.

Marty appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped, and current on vaccinations. He recently had a dental. His one health problem is chronically infected ears. He will need ongoing ear medications.

Marty was adopted on January 19, 2025 by a lady from Port Hueneme who has owned Schnauzers before. Marty and she have quickly become close companions.
